Flew my good old 78" EXtra again last weekend with the OS gt33. The plane has about 150 flights and the engine has about 6 gallons through it over about 50 flights. While I still say the OS gt33 is a significant improvement over the DLE30, the starting issue has become a PIA.

I know how to tune a gas engine and this one runs beautifully when running. And it is easy to start IF half the time it wouldn't start backward. The only reliable solution is to have the throttle at about 40% when you start it. Well it is exciting to have a plane lurch forward doing 4000 RPM immediately after you start it.

Come on OS where is the fix or at least version 2 of the gt33?

If you use a starter with that engine it will not run backwards while starting. I use a 20 year old sulivan starter with a 4s lipo strapped to it. I do not have an OS33, but it will start my VVRC 40 twin easily.

Terry, that is one awesome airplane. I have that same one, same color, with a DLE 35 cc. today, I checked the rpm, with a 20 x 8 falcon prop, 7200 rpm, on the ground of course, temp was 50 degrees F, 200 feet elevation. engine temp was 240 degrees F.

BTW, I like your tail wheel set up!!

Yea, I like to drag my tail allot so shorty factory tailwheels are not an option. I use J&J on all my bigger birds but the Ohio superstar is perfect for this size up to 50cc bird.

The vvrc 40 actually starts pretty easy without a starter but I found the trick is to choke and flip till it pops. Then go to half choke and it fires up, so let it run for 10-15 seconds. Power down, choke off, start and go fly. Worked every time. Smooth little engine.

forgot to mention: today, when I was testing the new brushless motor rpm sensor from Jeti (which connects to the DLE - Rxcel CDI tach JR plug), I did go ahead and put a fish scale on the tail, and with WOT, the "pull" was 24 pounds!!! not bad for a little plane that weighs under 17 pounds.

I think that engine is a perfect match for this airplane. saw some videos someone had posted with this combo, and it was dynamic!!! extreme more like it!!!

+1 on the 12 and some ounces. Mine weighs in at 12.9 oz. Its a little heavier than Terry's due to servos used.
