Fly'n with the Circus. RDRC's traveling Circus

OK guys, here tizzzzzzz. RDRC's Traveling Circus want to share some of the fun we have on the week ends, and show the world how much fun we have visiting the many fly in's across North Caroline and neighboring states. It's not uncommon for us to send 8 to 10 trailer loads of planes on even given week end, to support fellow clubs, and put on a good show. Our club averages 130 members a year, and 10 to 15 of us get together every Saturday morning, grab a bite to eat, and hit the road in convoy. We have an awesome time doing it, and just thouight we'd share the fun with all of you. So grab a glass of tea, kick back in your chair, and travel along with us through the Flying Giants. We think you'll have a fun time, and we promise LOTS of crash pics as a bonus!

OK Circus,,,,,,,,,start posting!

Lots of hardcore huckin today at RDRC. These are some after pics of "Steve-O" and his WH Edge. Steve-O just got a 100cc sukhoi so he was really pushin the envelope with his 50cc edge, multiple tq rolls on the deck and then this happens in spactacular fashion, and he almost had it saved.

Steve-o, I thought it was the bee sting and snake bite that you got at the same time that put it in :-) . Man, that bird went in fine style!

Some of the Circus, huckin' at Vanceboro... The first pic is JAy Benson huckin' it in the wheat. The pile of green/yellow stuff in the 2nd pic is my John Deere, after winning the trashbag contest during a mach 1 full-throttle dive. Pics 3 & 4 are Larry's Yak, down on the deck!

Re: Fly'n with the Circus. RDRC's traveling Circus

Every weekend, the RDRC Travelling Circus has a bunch of stories to tell so this thread is a great place to do it!

Dave posted a pic above but didn't mention the hilarious circumstances behind it. Everyone has an "old" plane that they fly with abandon and to get the most "crowd response", if you know what I mean. Larry Lewis repaired an old H9 Ultra Stik that he rescued from the trash can and rebuilt a while back and it has become known as the "Death Diver" around these parts. He takes it up to a high altitude and does full-power, vertical dives at the ground as the crowd yells "hold it, hold it, hold it" on the way down. Then he puls a hard corner as close to the ground as possible (he doesn't listen to us) and has dragged the grass on more than one occasion as the crowd bursts into cheers. It's amazing that the wings don't fold!

Well, not to be outdone, Dave Hockaday (Tweek) made what was called the "Hefty Bag Challenge" to Larry at a recent event in Vanceboro, NC. Dave has an old Andrews H-Ray (!) with a disctictive Green/Yellow covering job that we have dubbed the "John Deer". He decided to "out-death-dive" Larry or bring the plane home in a trash bag. On his very first dive, the wing popped off and the fuselage buried itself in the wheat field. The rest of us laughed so hard that we fell on the ground and thrashed around for a while. The funniest part is that the 'ole Deer survived pretty well. As you can see in the pic below, the glue joint on the front wing hold-down bulkhead was so old that it literally tore out of the fuselage causing the wing to come off. It will dive again! So we'll have "Hefty Challenge - the Sequel (coming to a theater near you)!

Here's a pic of Robert and Larry taken by David Jones, just as I planted the H-Ray in the wheat. Robert is laughing, Larry dropped to the ground and about 2 seconds later, was rolling on his back laughing like mad. The John Deere was about -4" on it's last dive, someone _has_ to best that (and they will)!
