Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
Hi Rich,
Good to hear from you and see you here. I didn't know you were on FG as well. Good to see you buddy! Yes, this is Quique's frist plane with HH. Kimball Enterprises and Quique worked really close on this together and they really have a winner here. Hope all is well and yes, you need to have one of these. I am sure Ryan will have a blast with it as well Cheers, Reza p.s. I still owe you some smoke tank/pump install photos. Have not forgotten Quote:

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
Hey guys. I am just back from a week long trip away and have just now read the new activity on this Beast thread. It is very cool to see the airplane is finally released for others to soon enjoy. As for the points related to the recommended engines for the Beast, it really comes to this. If they had advertised it as for the Evolution 80 only, people would make posted here and complain about it. Keep in mind that the design work on this 100cc class ARF was well underway BEFORE Quique accepted his position at HH. Just like the python that QQAC offered, it can be fitted with an 80-85cc class engine if desired. But, engines larger than 100cc that have an installed weight greater than the DA-100 are simply too heavy for the airframe and may present a balance issue.
So, instead of inventing controversy about what engine is recommended for this airplane (no sense in stirring an empty pot), how about swinging the discussion back to the cool features and added stuff found in the Hangar 9 Beast 100? For example, the PRICE. It is priced lower than the python was from QQAC but at the same time, comes fully hinged, includes all the hardware, wheels, etc. which were an optional pack with the QQAC airplanes. It comes with many other cool added bonuses too that the customers/pilots will like. This model and the full scale share design ideas that QQ and I worked on together. That is a really cool part of this airplane for me. He and I have talked hours about airplanes and why we do some things one way and models to it another. He work is helping me improve full scale airplanes while things he learns from the full scale side are being applied to models. The H9 Beast 100 is only the first model to come from this collaboration. |

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
I think you are all right....
I went wayyyyy to far out there... and made too much out of it. When I typed this stuff up this morning, I went away, and though,,,, "I want to delete some of that stuff" but it was to late.... I wasn't around when 3W parted ways and DA had come to be...Wish someone would give me a hx leason... You all love QQ, and I hope that you all don't think I don't... I really do .... and his planes ect... I think Kimball has really shown that the colaboration between HH and QQ and kimball ent. is a wonderfull thing... I couldn't agree more.... |

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
Really sincere congratulations, Kevin, it is going to be exciting to get what is probably the first RC plane built w/such close collaboration w/the full-scale designers and builders ! I never got to fly the Python but QQ's Yak w/100cc DA on it is still the most amazing plane I have ever flown ... and the one I fly most all the time . I am constantly surprised what it will do in the air !
So if we buy the Beast does that give us a free pass to come and see your plant in Florida? :-) We are pulling up stakes here in Vegas and headed for Georgia the second week in Nov. so I will sure plan to come and see you sometime in near future . Please pass on my congrats to QQ and the Horizon staff ... they are first rate people all the way. |

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
I have a DA100 on the shelf....just waiting to be bolted onto a "Beast" of an airframe!
I am glad HH left the engine options open to the customers.....seems to be right in line with their great service track record! I can post many personal examples on their superb service, but I want to keep this thread on message. I'll still buy the airframe, servos, receiver, switches etc from HH anyway, so I think HH will do OK, and so will I, since I get to use my existing DA100 Win win situation. I am hoping for a schedule pull-in on the April'10 release date Subtle hint to HH Congrats to everyone involved with the Beast development, and keep up the great work! |

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
So an Evolution 80GX pulls a Mejzlik 27x10 at 6200 rpm while a DA100 pulls the same prop at probably close to same RPM I am assuming. Couldnt find the specs on it. Would someone notice a big difference between the 2? Obviously the 100 twin is gonna have more torque but with that comes added weight. I am just trying to do my homework here. I know that some guys on here did two builds with EF 110" Yaks putting a DA85 on one while the other had a DA100 installed.

1. Cost 2. weight 3. Type of exhuast used..... Large singles have been around for quite some time... havn't looked at exact RPM, and I don't own a large single, but a twin 100 so perhaps someone that has experience with these on wrap around pitts VRS. a Pipe or can.... I believe that if you want the power out of a large single, you need a pipe or mild tuned can to equal the power of a twin 100+ on stock exhuast... Like any 2-stroke engine...THey Love tuned exhuasts.. Perhaps someone that has flown BOTH... knows a bit more.... Arcraft being equall: Single on pipe VRs Twin on pipe...??? can one tell a difference in power?? Midrange? Imac or 3d stuff?? Or can one really know there is a extra pound in the airframe when flying?? would like to know this as well... |

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
I think I remember seeing a clip of an interview with Quique in which he said the evo with tuned pipe would be good for pure 3d... And the DA100 would be more for IMAC and all around.....
I think the clip was on Horizons news section from the Expo. Not positive though. My question would be more on vibration of the single vs. The twin |

SOME VIDS OF 100cc planes with zdz 80.
and having seen an 80 single pull a 100cc plane i would have no issues with one, remember the QQ and his vids of the python with DA85. Mark |

Re: Hangar 9 Pitts 12R "The Beast"
Is it late April yet?
I keep checking this thing out and thinking how cool a DA-120 (or pehaps a BME 110/116) and smoke would be on it! Might have to this summer's project. I just maidened my first 100cc airplane about a month ago and I'm already rummaging through the garage looking for stuff to sell so that I can get my second. If H9's weight is near the mark, this thing should be a serious floater! My only concern would be punch-out power at my elevation (mile high) by the time I put a smoke tank in (figure I'd realistically be pushing 30 pounds at that point). I think a DA-100 would be out of the question (too bad, because I'm sure there will be good prices on used ones pretty soon with the DQ-120 coming out) but a DLE-111 might work on the budget side. |
