Hello From Jamaica Queens New York - Near JFK Airport

Hey All -

I want to say hello to all. I am very very new to 3d. I have only been flying for about 2 seasons and this will be my 3rd. After seeing 3d by one of my club members "paul" from Floyd Bennett field I totally want to do 3d now. I purchased a Worlds Model Cap 232 40 size with hopes on accomplishing that but a 46 size engine doesn't cut it. I now have a mini edge (waiting for its maiden) & a hobby lobby foamy 3d which I have been having fun with. I believe I want to take the next big jump this year by getting something bigger. What are your recommendations ?

Thats my story and I am sticking to it

Mark from Floyd Bennett Field :-)

Welcome to Giant. I think you will have a nice time here. Do they allow 3D at Floyd Bennett Field? I got the impression that they just want to fly in circles the one time i came to visit. I considered joining them but I'm not one to fly in circles. Heck...I can't fly straight either

Hi Mark...WELCOME!

I used to fly at Floyd Benett Field back in the day but now live in South Jersey! My buddy Bruce Roland flys there and usually has a Composite ARF Extra 300 with him.

Nice to have another NY flying brother in the house!

Jamaica Queens??? My Father was born and raised in Rosedale near the Green Acres Shopping Center off the Sunrise. I'm sure you know wher that is!

If you're on a budget, the H9 Extra 260 is great. I love mine.

Hey Smokey - Thanks for the welcome. We have a few guys like Paul, Igor and Mike that fly 3D their. Mostly Paul and Igor are our 3d kings over there. A lot of original members from the golden age that do not like new things like 3d or electrics.

A Funtana 90 or maybe a filton Extra size plane would be real nice.

but you could still do it with a ucd 40 or something in the 40, sizes with maybe a 60-90 size engine and maybe even a saito 100.

livinma1...I probably did see the golden age crew when I visited. How do you guys avoid not hitting the cars on the road at the end of the runway?

Hey Texx -

Yes -- I know Bruce... He brings his composite down to the field on top of his BMW wagon. Really cool guy. Oh yeah I use to work at caldors at greenacres. They took over where Alexanders use to be.

Thanks for the Welcome -- I actually work in NJ right now in Lyndhurst.

Hey Yaks -

I actually have a ucd 40 that I won at a club meeting last year. I was deciding if I should keep it or sell it and get something bigger.

Welcome and glad you found us!!!

I've had the most fun, in the 40 size, with one of the many profiles out there.

Cheap enough to try new stuff, but stable enough for the new 3D pilot.

Billy Hell's Mojo ARF would be sweet, but there is a waiting list. I currently fly a CG Extreme 330 with a 50sx.

Exit #5 off the Jersey Turnpike. Mount Laurel Area.

LIVINMA1...Yeah Bruce looks crazy driving to the Fly-ins with a 35% Extra on his Beemer roof! I've known him for 20 some odd years! Good guy!
Work in Lyndhurst? I'll have to get some of the PARKS flyers down here to fly...tons of fields to choose from!
