BME Engines Out of Business?

I have been trying to contact BME Engines for a month now for a purchase.

Phone at 254-836-0835 does not get answered, but sometimes rings busy.

Emails at bmeengine@aol.com do not get answered either.

I'm about to go spend my money somewhere else.
Are you guys getting through? What do you do when you have a problem?

Re: BME Out of Business?

I believe that BME, as a company, is not doing sales, but working on their motors and new releases. I think that TBM is handeling the sales aspect. There's a thread somewhere on this as well. If you want info, contact a distributer and not direct.

Re: BME Engines Out of Business?

I am asking about BME Engines. Not BME Aircraft.

I will try to update the title to clarify.

Thanks for the responses.

Don's Hobby Shop. http://www.donshobbyshop.com

I just sent my engine back to BME for service and got it back with impresive turnaround time.

martyg--- This is only speculation on my part.
If no one answers the phone, Steve must not be at work and Keith is doing it all by himself. I know he is working on some new engines, building current engines, all along with repairs and custom work for people.
Last week he returned a carb I sent him to modify so I could do some experimenting with.
He usually answers e-mails the same day unless he is out of town.

If you want awesome service go with DA. I'd base the purchase on reliability, power, service.

Gawd I hate that line. You develop a strong service department because you had or have to....

There is no threat of BME going out of business, not even hardly. He's got more orders that he knows what to do with, and not enough time to fill them all. Stay with the e-mails, forget the phone. He'll get back to you. It may just take a couple of days.

BME Models is not BME Engines.

Re: BME Out of Business?

Ive owned both DA and BME. I liked the idea of the light weight of the BME, and it always ran, but that's about where it ended for me. Had lots of guys claiming certain performance numbers that I could never reach with my BME - not even close. In a perfect side by side comparison, my buddy and I had the same plane, both engines on stock muffs - his had the DA and weighed 1.5 pounds more than my plane. He out-turned my BME by 250+ RPM, and he had the 28X10 mejz compared to my 27X10.
I have since switched back to DA and couldn't be happier - midrange is WAY better and the entire engine is WAY easier to tune, top RPM is WAY better, and I didn't have to fight any balance issues. Not that it matters to me, since DA is just down the street if I need, but every time I call I get a human being to answer, 95+% of the time.

Patty, I'm no BME hater... on the contrary I run one myself. That said DA seems to have the best service of the 3 major brands out there.

Your post should answer any questions you had about which engine to buy or not buy. Best of luck to you on your engine search.
