PT Models Propellers.

I had one de-laminate (from the hub to the tip on one Trailing edge)this weekend and was wondering if anyone has seen this before on them.
It was a 30x12 2B with 12 flights on it.

I called TBM this morning and they are taking care of me but I am wondering if this is a one time event or has it happened to anyone else out there?

Wayne, I was talking with a flying buddy yesterday and he had one split on him. About halfway down the blade starting at the tip. 32x10

Glad you caught yours when you did.

Me too.
I think I'd be looking for a plane now if it had let go completely inflight.

Had the same thing happen on a 34 x 10 3w. Steener and I were just doing a run up when it sounded like a shotgun went off. If it would of let loose in the air it would shook the airframe apart.

Wayne, glad you caught it when you did. A couple of guys are flying them at our field with good luck so far....I will let them know to be careful. Thanks for the heads up, Craig

I have a 32x10 and had a 26x10, no problems, and the 32x10 was ripping hard.

Re: PT Models Propellers.

I have a 27-10 PT Prop on my DA100 powered Edge. The prop is not really giving the pull I'd like. When I talked to DA about their suggestions, the first thing they suggested was to check the LE of the prop for splitting. He commented that apparently they've heard of several PT prop blades doing this.......

I have had mine on for about 20+ flights not and love it. I do however check it before and after each flight just to make sure all is in order. I do this with any prop not just the PT props.

My 27x10 is AWESOME!!! I check it over every 5 flights. I'm VERY confident in it. But again, thanks for the heads up. Will check more frequently.

I can't find their (PT props) web site at the moment but if you look at it you will see they rate the maximum RPM of some of their props very close to the RPM we use them. They are very light props and that must come at a cost.

EDIT.

Found it. http://www.ptmodel.cz

32x10 is rated 6000RPM max. Not enough margin in that for me. I definitley would not use them on a 150/157 with pipes.

That's interesting..I would think almost any 150 would unload that prop to over 6000 RPM in the air. What are most of you guys turning on the ground? I have flown Bryan's prop and it does perform nicely. Spools up real quickly and pulls pretty nice with a good sound (even seems a little quieter when ripping). But 6000 sounds like a very surpassabale RPM. Craig

Re: PT Models Propellers.

My prop had a piece of paper in the bag that said max RPM 6500. I now this is different from thier website. FYI the samller the prop the higher the max RPM the 27 x 10 has a max of 7500 RPM. IF I can recall corectly I think Mejlik and 3w say max of 6500 as well.

Interesting.
I had TBM drill the prop and the spinner for me since I was buying both at the time.
My prop came wrapped in bubble wrap with no RPM warning.

I was turning the PT 32x10 at 6400, unloading to 6900-6930 in the air according to the inflight tach, prop held together fine.
