If they renamed those to

"Don't Read This Under Any Circumstances!!!.txt"

A lot more people might actually read the release notes

After reading that note, I get the impression it refers to loading the update with existing models and telemetry already in the radio (as many folks would be). However, I loaded it in a brand new DX18 G2 that I had never used before; maybe that's why I didn't pay much attention. Might still be the answer, though.

Gen 1 is a perfectly fine radio. It doesn't have the voice or wireless trainer.

I've been flying the DX18 Gen 1 since it released and it has been perfect for me. Not one problem, awesome radio.

+1 I bought mine a while back right when they were releasing the gen 2 and blowing out the Gen 1. I love it and when I read posts that it's obsolete I have to smile.

So other than the voice alerts and wireless trainer, are their any other notable differences that would justify the extra cash for the Gen 2 over the Gen 1?

I believe there may be a few very minor software differences but the big ones are voice alerts and wireless trainer. If you don't feel the need for those features, then the Gen1 at $499 is a great value.

Origin Mixing
.5% mixing
Canards
Voice Alerts
Wireless Trainer

Those are the differences. Other than that, identical radios. Either one is a great choice.

Origin mixing and the .5% mix value were the ones I was thinking of but I also seem to recall they came out with a new "special" firmware for the G1. Thought perhaps the "special" firmware may have had those things added to the G1 but not sure.

Thanks guys, yeah I compared them side by side on the HH web site but wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I use an 11X and 9503 right now and am considering selling both to finance a DX18. Thanks again for the help. JC
