Power Expander EQ-10 and turbo Reg problem

Robert,

I have an issue on my airplane with the EQ-10/ Turbo reg combo.

I am running the failsafe switch on the turbo reg and I have 2ea 7.2V 3,600 li-pos for the receiver. The problem is that today when I went to the field to maiden the airplane, everything seemed to work fine, but after I range-tested and everything, I turned off the switch to fill the gas tank again. When I went to turn on the switch, the servos had power, but they weren't receiving any signal. I tried to move the surfaces by hand but they wouldn't move and the servos squeaked so they had power, but nothing happened when I moved the sticks.

I would turn it off and on for about 6-7 times and then it would work. I started deflecting the surfaces and noticed that sometimes the surfaces would lag like I was out of range, only sometimes though. If I switched the power off, it would take about 6-7 tries for it to work again. I tried disconnecting the RX power leads because of the DSC issue, but my power leads go to the throttle input and Aux5 input on my JR 10-ch receiver so that was a non-issue and wouldn't affect the problem.

I checked to make sure the RX was working by plugging in a 4.8v battery directly to it and a servo directly to the RX and it would work fine, so I'm stuck...

What do you think??

Vic

Hi Vic,
I am not sure. Do the channel LEDs come on when you think the receiver is not getting power? If they do it means the Eq10 is seeing valid servo pulses from the receiver. If not, then something is wrong. I can send you a new Eq10 tomorrow if you get me your address or let me know your full name so I can look it up in my database. I will want to get that Eq10 back so I can look at it. Let me know.

Robert,

They say a picture's worth a thousand words, but a video's worth a million. I will take it off youtube as soon as you check it out, so let me know. If you think the issue is the EQ-10, I will appreciate your offer to see if I can get this issue worked out. I will pm you.

Thanks

Dumb question. At what voltage are you running the regulator? If you have it set some where around 5v. or just above, does the problem go away if it's set to 6 to 6.2v?

Just curious...

Reg is set to 6V.

I will be swapping this EQ-10 out for a new one to see if that solves it. Big thanks to Robert Ritchey. Incredible service.

Vic, When this occurs, pull out one of the 3 wire power lines going into the receiver and plug it into a battery checker. This will show you how much power is going to the receiver when this problem happens.

There's 2 power lines going into the RX and both read 4.9v when I checked.
