Covering Seam question

Wierd question..... I've done covering before (admittedly VERY little!!) and never run across this before.....

Covering a Fusion kit and for the scheme I would like, the seam betwenn two colors would go over open areas in the fuse.

(see red line in picture)

would it be ok to have a seam over the openings or should I overlap down to a point where the seam would be on solid ground?

I know...it sounds basic, but I"m just not sure..

Light color on bottom, dark color on top of the seam. Or, seam them on a piece of glass, to where you hace 1 large piece of covering.

Re: Covering Seam question

Most people will tell you to overlap the two coverings on glass and apply low heat to the seam. I didn't have any luck with glass due to it absorbing the heat so i used lit-ply and low heat. The covering sticks together yet peals off the wood. Then apply to your model but be sure pull it tight and be careful when you are shrinking around the seam!

Try a scrap piece and see if it works for you! Key words "low heat", just enough to make the coverings backing tacky, yet not enough to cause the covering to wrinkle.

Let me know if you have any luck.

GL,
Andrew

OK.... so basically you are saying to create the seam before it goes on the model...

then apply the 2 pieces as one?

Hmmm... have to give it a shot...
Off to work now, but day off tomorrow so I'll try

Re: Covering Seam question

, on the plane i'm doing now i didn't think the scheme through before i cut a gizillion lighten holes and had to seam over some fairly large openings so i just cut about a 1/2 wide piece of balsa and ca'd it in the open bay so that my seams could meet on wood and not seperate when heat was applied to shrink it. may not be the way pro's do it but it worked great for me...good luck w/ the project !!
