Re: Brillelli Engines

There is always a waiting list for a Brillelli.. Scott can't keep up. He is quite behind at the moment but he told me on Thursday he had a bunch of engines going out on Friday and Monday. At that point it will still take 3-4 weeks to get one.

I am assuming upfront... never really thought about it to be honest.. I always paid up front in the past.

It was definitely slower pulling out of a hover but still very good. I ended up running a Mejzlik 23x8 after the 23B. I have to say I believe I finally found my favorite prop. I like the way it flies with the Mejzlik and the sound is a definite plus.

Here is my preference of the props on a 17.25lb. EF Yak
  1. Mejzlik 23x8 (quiet, pulls good, smooth power)
  2. Vess 23B (pulls good, smooth power)
  3. Vess 23A (pulls excellent, quick power, Brakes well)
  4. Mejzlik 22x10 (Super Quiet, Pulls good, very smooth power, less braking)
  5. PT 23x8 (Loads the motor, doesn't pull out as well as the others)
  6. Menz 23x8 (Loads the motor more)
I would prefer a 23A on a heavy plane or to break in a new motor.
Love your post man. This is Great input !

Try a Vess 23A and you'll find it pulls out of a hover very quickly. The 23B is roughly equivalent to a 23X10, not a 23X8. The A prop is roughly equivalent to a 8 pitch.

Re: Brillelli Engines

Ive got a 46GT coming that has about a gallon of fuel thats been through it. Its going on a Skyshark Christen Eagle ( 64 inch upper wingspan) that Im hoping with this engine will be around 15 to 16 lbs. The plane weighed 13.9 lbs with a saito 180 on it. What would be some good props for me to try with the 46? I would like some speed on this plane if possible. Just a note... I dont think I will be able to swing bigger that a 21 inch prop due to ground clearance issues with the landing gear.
Thanks,
John

Re: Brillelli Engines

I just straightened a bent 366...Very nice looking conversion ..The crank has a Husqvarna part # on it...JXF 23-8 prop, 6200 rpm....No evidence of any balancing, it runs like a single cylinder engine, not as smooth as a twin.....
I converted a few 46s years ago, didn't have any 21 inch props, got 6400 with a 22-8 Menz....

Re: Brillelli Engines

The 46 will swing high 7k on a 20x8 and be happy all day... can move up to a 21x8 if you would like but not needed. It will swing a Menz 21x8 around 7200.

Ralph.. might be one of the older ones I thought they were balanced now. 6200 is pretty low?? My IMAC plane has a brand new one with about 3 gallons on it now. Mejzlik 23x8 6900 hot (after 15 min flight) with a pitts muffler. I can't see loosing that much at your altitude?

Re: Brillelli Engines

Don't know, the crank was completely stock, unmarked except for the Husky part number...
Everything runs low here, might be the prop...23-8 JXF...I just ran 2 G62 conversions, no muffler, one ran 6200, the other ran 6400....One was NIB, the other was used..
Seems like the 366 would look better without the coarse sand blast on the cylinder and mount plate...

Must def. be loosing power than.. I can't recall numbers off the top of my head but had to tune a couple G-62s at the field and I know they weren't that low either.

Guess I will just be happy I am at sea level
