--- Awesome, thanks for the update. We'll wait on the Hitec engineers to hopefully look into this. I wish you the best on the new build and maiden!
Thanks Eganwp, was thinking that, but wanted to ask to make sure!!

I believe you can setup the failsafe positions with the program, but I would bypass that and just set them when you rebind.
When your JR buddy has to send his radio in for an update cause JR doesn't let you do it yourself, and he doesn't have a radio for a few weeks,it will be your turn to laugh

Failsafe on Optima can be set either via PC or Tx:
Spectra 2.4GHz Module Manual V2.0 & Optima Failsafe Settings.
"03Oct10:
HPP-22 V1.04 upgrade provided for additional Failsafe setting method via the HPP-22, copy screen shots attached."

As in preceding post, your JR Buddy is simply jealous because he can not update units and has to buy new each time.

Small update. Flew both of the Optima 9ch Rx's I had in the Yak55m in a trainer this weekend. Flew each one to a speck in the sky with no problems. So on their own they are fine.
Leon.

Actually, you don't set failsafe by rebinding. Just put sticks & switches in the desired failsafe position and press the button on the rx until it starts flashing. it will flash red & blue progressively quicker until it stops. Once it stops your failsafe is set.

New Firmware binding confusing

OK, I love my A9,
But I have got to ask, why does it seem that Hitec has step 6b incorrect, unless my optima 9 and my Optima 7 are both Bad.....?

The latest Spectra Manual seems to have something incorrect...
The upgrade website had the latest Spectra manual with a filename of: "Spectra2.4Manual_EN_v3.pdf"

The Link process is documented in that manual as follows:
1. Press and hold the button on the module, and turn on the transmitter.
2. Release the link button
3. For Optima, Check if the RED LED is blinking. If the BLUE LED is blinking, press the link button for 2 sec., so that the LED changes to RED
4. Press and hold the link button on the receiver and turn on the power
5. Release the link button
6. (6A)When the link is completed, the BLUE LED on the module will blink while the RED LED on the module glows steady. (6B) For the receiver, both BLUE & RED LEDs will glow steady.
7. When they are turned on again, you will hear a continuous beep sound. Both the RED LEDs on the module and receiver will glow steady in normal status. (NOTE, this statement is incorrect, it is NOT a continous beep, but "4 Peeps"

Guess what, 2 of us looked at both of these receivers with frustration.
Let me state it the issue: "THE BLUE LED NEVER LIGHTS UP" in step 6B !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We tried rebinding over and over again, notta, nothing, no BLUE LED stays lit.. urrrgggg
The only glimpse of the blue LED was for a micro second when power was first given to both Rx's, but NO WAY did step 6B pan out.

So we did range checks, triple distance to range check, range Great (never lost signal, gave up).
Then we did indeed get the 4 peeps, so we assumed step 6B is WRONG, so then we flew the heck out of the planes.

But, being a computer engineer, this kind of stuff makes me nervous, drives me crackers .
Yes I love my A9, but gee whiz, the documents must be accurate to make us feel confident.

So, would the writer behind door # 6 please help us out here?
We just need to know that indeed step 6B is WRONG??????
(then of coarse a new version of the manual published so we feel confident )

Remember, that ASSUMPTIONS are the mother of all screw-ups

Thank you very much!

I think it's incorrect as well. I own at least 8 Optimas (mostly 9's) and none of mine do 6b either. Once in awhile I will see the blue led flash for a very brief moment when binding, but that's it. I gave up worrying about that long ago as they all work fine. :P

The Link process is documented in that manual as follows: <snip>
AFHSS - ID_Setup (also known as Binding or Linking) & Range Test Procedure for
........Aurora 9, Spectra 2.4Ghz Module <> Optima Transceiver or Minima Receiver.

extract:

. 07 Oct 2011 Update:
Blue LED on Optima V2.02 may not hold steady after ID setup, just a very brief flash.
(may be to fast for many to see)
Red LED then holds steady.
Cycle power both TX & Optima to complete and then range test as usual."
