Monokote / Sandpaper finish

I, like most of us have worked with monokote and ultracote for a while. Just recently I started covering a new project using the color charcoal monokote. I picked up five rolls, and after covering one elevator I noticed it looked like there was trash bits all underneath the covering. So I figured I didnt prepare the wood enough after woodpeckering so resanded and attempted again with same sandpaper finish. After inspecting the backing of monokote there were spots all over with very small clumps of what looked like glue. Sent all five rolls of charcoal back and recieved five new ones with same trait. I have many other colors that work fine. I spoke with my father who had same problem with black I believe. Im just throwing it out there to see if this is a growing trend with monokote and if anyone else has seen this....

I had the same problem with Black and Met. Blue. I noticed it when I would apply monokote on top of itself without heat. But when I heated it up over bare wood the problem would melt away.

Jermey,

hey how's it going. The problem is with the monokote. The dark colors especialy, i have sent back numerous roles as well. I think this is a production issue (contamination). If you call hobby services they say theres no problem but i know of at least a dozen people having the same problem. try econokote for the black that is what i had to do and Inspect whatever you buy.

Later dude

Jeremy, had the same problem in January. Kevin at Hobbico told me it was with the MFG.(something about the new glue and EPA regulations). The Metalic Blue and Grey we used was all bad. Kevin even pulled all the rolls of blue and grey in stock and said they all had the same problem. I waited 5 months on new stock and have given up and just changed colors. I'm having no problems with the new colors so far.

I've seen it with White, but not on my bird!! I think that on the white is that it is just a bit of dirt under the covering. MonoKote is my choice of covering. I did use a tad of UltraCote on this bird, the one in my avitar. MonoKote doesn't have any covering that shifts colors! Which is a HUGE BUMMMER!!!!!

Like Rollin says, I see it only on top of itself.

Don't give up on it!! They will get it right!!!

I guess since you have never seen this before, the rest of us must be imagining all of this. When you take the time to build a plane, and everything comes out perfect, then you apply your Monokote and it looks like crap, you arn't happy. Simple as that. He wasn't whinning. He was asking a question.

Yes there is a problem with Monokote. I have had better luck with the 25 foot rolls. I don't know why, but they just seem to be better.

Relax, he is my buddy and I am the one who showed him the problem in the first place. I was just giving him a hard time.

Yeah I first noticed it when I was looking at your plane the first time you pulled it out of the hangar. I vowed to never let my plane look like that... but look how the tides have turned.
