Smartfly question.

Is there a way to to leave the two batteries hooked up to the Smartfly power expander and chatge the batteries without having the common ground issue ?

I like having the Dean plugs of my batteries zip tied to the power expander.
I have seen them vibrate off one time.

I put a Tamiya 7.4v plug in the switch line so I can disconnect one, allowing me to charge both batteries at once avoiding the common ground issue.

Hi,
Other than using a Fromeco charger, no. This is not specific to our units. Even if you had two batteries going through two switches to a single receiver you would have this problem. Any time two batteries end up plugged into a common point you have a common ground. Switches only break the positive lead.

I have two 6" extensions hooked to my competition 12, one in each switch connection on the power panel ,two reliion 5200's . I have been charging through each extension and leaving the batteries hooked up. No problems yet. Hope this helps.

Hi,
If you are trying to charge both batteries at a time then you are risking damaging the batteries or the charger(s) unless you are using a Fromeco charger. This is not recommended as all other chargers do not handle common ground correctly. You may luck out most of the time but sometime you are going to get a partial charge in a a battery, overcharge a battery or damage your charger. Just be cause its worked some of the time is no reason to keep doing it. It is safe to charge one battery at a time with everything hooked up, just not both batteries.
