Extra 260 vs Extra 300

I've heard the Extra 260 is a great combination of 3D and Precision, and i've heard the Extra 300 is a good Precision plane. But which is the better all-around plane?

Re: Extra 260 vs Extra 300

The Extra 260 amd 300 are very similar both having the wing higher than the Extra 300 S and L. The 300 is a 2 place tandem vs the 260 a single place. The wing being close to the thrust line allows the plane to fly very neutral in knife edge etc. The newer Extra 300 L and S designs have a lower wing and tend to exhibit more coupling. In my opinion, the original 260 and 300 translate better into great all around flying RC aircraft.

Re: Extra 260 vs Extra 300

About time, I have been waiting for someone to start this debate :6a:

I have not flown one of the newer generation 260's. I say newer because they are lighter with bigger control surfaces, compared to the 260's we were flying 15 years ago.

I flew for years a Pirate 260 and it ROCKED All the control surfaces were too small and it just was a brick compared to todays standards for aggresive 3D flight.

I'm going to guess the 260 may win this one and if you look at the Yaks its very similar to the 260 set up.

BTW, My 3D bird of choice at the moment, CHP Vision, which looks alot like a 260.

I would think the 300 would exhibit better knife edge handling due to the increased side area. I'm building an Aerotech Extra 300 42% now!

I am curious to see how Ryan's Aerotech 300 will compare to my Dalton 260. Quit playing around and finish it so we can trade some stick time.

Re: Extra 260 vs Extra 300

Hello,

I can answer that one. The planes fly different. Our airfoils are totally different than the 260 and this allows for a better slower speed. Both airplanes are impressive. Tony and I fly together all the time. I think its wheather you want a 260 or a 300. We got alot of attention at the JR this year and several people flew the planes and well as Mike Elder winning the Sudden Death and Freestyle with a 300.

Thanks

John

Re: Extra 260 vs Extra 300

Guys as John posted above he flies with Tony a lot. I have the fortunate opportunity to also fly with Tony. When Tony first started selling the 260 I was in the market for a 40-42% plane and flying with him at our local field and being a buddy of his he was nice enough to bring his out and let me have a go at the sticks.

I ended up with an Aerotech instead for many reasons, mostly because they had a yak and Tony did not. Anyways, back to the topic, having flown tony's 260 and the 300 mid-wing from John at the JR Challenge I have come to the conclusion that they both are equal planes. I tend to be more parcial to the 300 then the 260 but you guys can have the same result from either plane. They both are built well, look great, and fly extremly well. You cannot go wrong with either of them, its really like john said, it just comes down to which one looks best to you.

Re: Extra 260 vs Extra 300

I think both of them are going to fly very similar due to the wing placement but it all depends on the manufacturer and the little things they do. Each of us use different airfoils and measurements on the same airplane which can translate into different flight characteristics.

It most likely going to be which one you like the look of better.
