Re: Lanier 1/3 extra 300 kit

Here is what I am thinking

BME 110 canister mufflers
Hitec 5955's on tail 5945's on ailerons
Smartfly power management
3 7.4 2100mahs Li-ions
Upgrade all pushrods to .210 carbon
The hardware that was ordered for the kit

Smoke?

Re: Lanier 1/3 extra 300 kit

Hi Hillman I had a Lanier extra 300 back years ago That had a old 3w 80 in it . A good Friend of mine built one and lightened it and made some other mods I think he still has all the numbers writen down ( the size he made the control serfaces and all that ) if you will send me a E-mail at teambreen@verizon.com I will send you his number ( He is not on this sight but I am sure he will be glad to tell you all the changes that he made Also Robert Godfrey sells a glass cowl and foam parts for the 300 that will make a really nice plane out of it (and make it lighter). he has a new websight up at www.bobflies.com
sory about the spelling I can't run spell cheack on this computer also It will probaly be Friday befor I can send you my friends # becouse I am away from home right now.

If you are up to it I would make new fuse sides and add about 3 inches. Then if you use the same turtle deck you will be able to install the larger L canopy. These things will make it track much better and have better knife edge performance.

I finished and have been flying mine for 2 months and love it, I built it stock and put a 3w80xi on it and it weighs 25lbs dry. awsome flying plane. Great for IMAC. If you want to do 3D like these guys said enlarge the surfaces. You will enjoy this plane , I am

Re: Lanier 1/3 extra 300 kit

This plane is great...especially for free. I have three friends that have them and I have one hanging on the wall about 75% complete. They build really well, but heavy like everyone said. One of my friends built one and decided to do a little "strengthening" and ended up with a 30 pound plane with a quadra 75 on it. Not exactly optimal!! We ended up putting a 3W 150 in it and it is an animal!!! But you can't fix the fact that it is heavy on the wings!
Now, I should tell you that even though it was heavy, with the 75cc on it it flew incredibly straight lines and would have been an awesome IMAC plane. Everything was great except the fact that it didn't have the greatest vertical. As far as the knife edge performance is concerned, I think that is a matter of power to weight. With the stock surfaces and weighing about 33 lbs with the 150 in it this plane will knife all day long. It does the most awesome smoke on, high alpha, knife edge. But with stock surfaces and an 80 on it at 25 +/- lbs it probably won't be the greatest.
I went ahead with mine and ordered new wing cores from flyingfoam.com. The fact that Lanier puts 4 x 1/4" spruce sars in each wing shows how much they overbuild. I went sparless and don't expect there to be any problems since this is what the competition guys do on the 40% planes. I also have Bob at flyingfoam.com cutting me new, enlarged, stabs and vertical to allow for larger surfaces.
As far as the fuse, the newer kits did use ply instead of the door veniers that were mentioned earlier. Mine built incredibly straight and light. You will want to add some angle brackets to the landing gear though since they are prone to ripping out as designed stock. I hope all this helps.
