Build Log
35% foamie edge 540
Hi guys,
Im starting to build the first 35% edge 540 out of foam. I will be marketing them as well since foam is so cheap! I will post pics as i go. Right now im in the designing stage. It will be a full fuse not a profile, it will come as PNP BnF ARF painted and un painted. I am using the blue or pink insulation foam because it is strong and easy to work with. Im going to use the Hacker A100 for the power plant with a 180A Castle speed controller. Im still debating on one servo per alieron or two. I may test both out and see which works best. Later on down the road i will design more planes if this one sells good. If you have any pointers please let me know |

right . 15 mins later still no pics . throw us a few ideas and maybe a pic or two of what you have planned. are you going to hollow out the polyurethane foam or keep it solid? a mate of mine made a 30% extra using white foam with carbon tubes and ply around the stress points. his was strong but the weight wasnt much less than a balsa model of the same size when it was all done. he also skinned the wings with 80 grams of glass cloth and carbon flat strips along the d box to give it strength.

Dang, makes me wonder what the heck I am doing with my 17 years alive hahahaha
Best of luck in your adventure. I am sure if nothing else, you will have a blast with the plane! |

the wingspan is going to be 100'' wingspan. The price depends on how much i spend getting it going. Idk what the weight is going to be. I plan on hollowing out the senter where the electronics go and keeping the rest solid. im going to use tent poles trough out the fuse and 2 rods in the wings for strength. im hoping it dont weigh more than 15-20 pounds if that. Im useing the SIG models 33% edge 540 as a pattern......... I was thinking about using sheets of carbon fibre on the outside of the fuse and wings but idk yet what ill do. i spent about 100 bucks in foam and i have plenty to do this plane LOL.

You should ask Crazy Karl how he did his. I believe his is a 40% carden version though and is gas powered. I saw it in person and it was cool for sure. I think there may be some pics of it on his 50% Pitts thread. He is at Joe Nall right now though.
