Katana Foamie Build Thread

Hello FG Friends,

I was just sitting here around the house and thinking what to do. So, here is what is going to happen. I am going to do a build thread on a Katana Foamie. This foamie was made in Tawaiin that I bought at the local hobby store.

I will dremel the heck out of the foam to reduce the weight.

The equipment this aircraft will have when all said and done is as follows:

Electronics-

Hacker Brushless Motor A20-34S
Hacker Brushless Controller X-7
Futaba R607FS Receiver
3 Hitec HS-55's
Lithium Battery 2 Cell 340 MaH
GWS 8X4 Prop

I also look forward to anyone that would like to join in and give me some suggestions.

The First Step- The Big Weigh In

Electronics-

With all of the electronics that are in the picture below, they weighed in at 3.9 OZ

Hardware-

All of this hardware is stock so I plan on reducing some of the weight by using lighter control linkages and pushrods etc. The stock hardware came in at 1.6 OZ.

Foam-

Of course the foam is always light. I will still dremel the heck out of it to lose some weight off of this airplane. All the foam came in at 2.8 OZ.

So, for the first night the AUW of this plane with everything stock is 8.3 OZ.

I do not have a set goal but I want this plane to have unlimited vertical with the A20-34S Hacker Brushless.

More to come tomorrow evening after work...........

WOW! If that plane comes out that light it should fly great. I'll keep a close eye on this thread.

I am guessing the same thing. I am hoping to get at least an ounce out of it. Like I said earlier there is no set goal so if I get more than that it will be great.

Why dremel the foam out? It seems that the motor has enough bite in it to power your plane perfectly.
