Our base age for a drivers license here is 17 but a 16 year old can get a moped license that is restricted to a 50cc Moped (this is why my 6ft plus son had a 50cc Vespa scooter). Anyone with a normal car license can also ride a Moped (Which is why I kept the sons scooter - the Missus will ride it occassionally for a laugh).

For a Motorcycle license, we were restricted to a maximum engine size of 250cc for the first year. But because of the high performance 250cc bikes that came out, they have introduced the LAMS license where for the first year you can only ride a motorcycle that is on the LAMS approved list. Now the restriction is :
  • an engine capacity not exceeding 660 cc.
  • a power-to-weight ratio not exceeding 150 kilowatts per tonne.
  • Any Motorcycle manufactured before December 1960
  • Any Motorcycle with an engine capacity below 260cc - with a few particular models specifically excluded.
  • Any Electric powered 2 wheeled thing.
All LAMS motorcycles must be in their original factory manufactured form as produced by the manufacturer.
There are actually quite a few approved bikes on the list (Low power to weight ratio I guess)

Interesting, they did a poll over on Helifreaks and 2/3's of the replies were Jr/Spectrum users.

Oh dear! We finally got you to turn to the dark side with the radios, now it looks like we'll have set you right with bikes.

Ride a DKW 500 1938, twin 2 stroke. Smooooth, the only thing you can feel is the wind hitting you with increased pressure.

But then that is 75 year old tech.

I got an old DKW rt 250 single I was going to restore but it looks to far gone but I'm trying to talk my old man into selling me his Adler MB 250 twin which runs just needs some money and a little TLC. Reckon it would be a worthwhile restoration.

My DKW is in bad shape too. Neglected for 20 years. It belonged to my dad but I rode it extensively during college days.
Have a couple of Norton 5HP singles too. Sidevalve 1942. They do vibrate a bit, but talk about reliabilty, just fill fuel and kick year after year.

Trimming the bushes back around your deck makes it look bigger.
