I would guess Blind nut clearance on split cowls as that's the exact location the wood sits for the blind nuts

Yes/No, that clears the lip on the cowl for the EF, but for the 104 AJS, they are there to clear the blind nuts.

I would like a pair of these baffles, but would like to know if you can make them longer. I saw a pair at the field the other day, it looked like they where about a half inch away from the cylinders.

Locktite epoxy for plastic works great on fiberglass and ABS. It makes a good canopy glue as well.
