Opto kill and sunlight
Has anybody else who doesn't use a on off switch on there opto kill notice sunlight will activate it? I just maidened my pilot edge today and noticed with the hatch off my ignition light was on. If I put my hand over the sending unit the light would go out. And with the rx off the ignition was still hot. I use the jr powersafe rx so there is only one switch turning the entire system off and on.

Is it the SF one with a fiber optic cable?
If so that's odd. If the cable is screwed down tight, no sun should get through the screw cap. |

It is the SF one and the cable is screwed down as tight as it can. I am going to call sf Monday, just wondering if anybody else noticed an issue. We figured out it was sun after 15 minutes. I was just about to pull the cowl and check all the wiring, then realized if you blocked the sun it would go out.

Maybe there is a crack or hole in the case which is allowing sun to get in. Either way, I'd call em or send it in. Something is up.

Hard to believe until you see it for yourself,,
We have another club member that had issue similar,, Light would stay on". Now that I think about it,, I wonder if he has a open deck canopy on that model,, we'll have to ask him today |

I am not sure if that was his issue. He has a separate switch on his ignition.

It has to be something faulty with it like a crack or hole. I have mine under the canopy of my edge so it's in constant sun pretty much. Never had an issue (even with the hatch off fwiw)

Any chance this unit has a BLUE housing on the fiber-optic transmitter? We shipped a few of these at the very beginning and found this issue. We switched to black which blocks the light. If the housing is blue this is a VERY old unit. We have had zero reports of this issue after changing to black.

Rob beat me to it- the old Blue housings would let light through, and he switched to the black housings-
Also- look for any nicks in the fiber optic cable that could let light through. Black electrical tape will prevent any light transfer. |

This unit is brand new, I bought it 2 weeks ago. The housing is black, and I cant find anything wron with the cable. We used a flashlight at the field today and couldn't get it to come on. But yesterday in the sun and hatch off the ignition was on the motor started witht he RX off. As soon as you put your hand over the sending unit to block the sun the motor would die.

Funny thing is that yesterday it was very bright and clear and today it was a little more cloudy/hazy,, at one point yesterday the ign./light went out sitting in the sunlight, I grabbed the rudder and moved the plane say 5 degrees clockwise and it came on.. so it would seam when the direct sunlight hit it just right it would come on.

Hi,
I don't know. I can send you another transmitter and see if you have the same symptoms. As I mentioned before, no one has mentioned this is 7-8 years after we switch to black. Quote:
