Re: 81" Lanier Cap 232 build

Fiberglass specialties sells a glass cowl for the Lanier Cap 232 Part LRC-10 $45 almost half of what I spent on the kit.. http://www.fiberglassspecialtiesinc.com/catalog.htm I'd really like to know if the GP 27% cap232 cowl will fit. It's only $25 http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLKN4&P=7 Glass pants are another $36 from FS but I think the Great Planes pants for the 27% cap ARF should work.. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLKN7&P=7 only $20

Re: 81" Lanier Cap 232 build

Hello,
Just watching to build.
I just sold this CAP to a guy in FL. and wanted to let you know that it is worth the time to build, but get the glass cowl from F.S. as it is good quality and fits the plane.
Here is a link to the plane before it was totally finished.

Enjoy!!!

Thanks!
I had a US41 on it,but looking back I would have chose the G62 like a friend has on his. With the G62 it has plenty of power and strong upline and vertical.
Good luck on the builds, its a good plane when done.

Re: 81" Lanier Cap 232 build

Nothing wrong with strips.. I'm going to edge glue the sheets together with tightbond into a single sheet before bonding them to the cores..

I do plan to replace all the wing skins with contest grade balsa..
On others builds I've seen for this plane it saved almost 2 pounds. on the wings & tail.

Spacesaver bags might work but I've found the ones my wife bought for home storage don't hold a vacuum well over a long period plus I don't think a shop vac can pull 6hg you'll want for bagging a white foam core wing.. Only one way to find out.. get a bag and a gauge

Im sure you could make it fit with some work to it. At least it should be close so it will be a good start. you may need to glass it some more to fit the fuses shape better, then paint.

Re: 81" Lanier Cap 232 build

I had one of these. Make sure you do some lightening mods in the tail. Just cut some circles to remove the wood. This plane tends to build tail heavy. Re-inforce the canopy area to handle a gasser. Adding a CF wingtube and landing gear will help greatly.

I had mine with a Brison 3.2 and it had MORE than enough power for 3D. IMO a DL-50 would be perfect...

FWIW, this was one of the best 3D planes I have ever owned in the 50cc class. I could do a "Climbing inverted flat spin". Don't ask me how but all the tumbling maneuvers were better than my EF Yak-54.

Pick a cool color scheme and have fun. CAP's are my favorite planes.

I got the kit Tuesday.. By some miracle at the old Lanier shops nothing is missing!

My first Giant...

Thinking DL50 or G62 for power..
I already figure I can save 3/4 lb by swapping to CF wing tube and gear..
The gear is 347g and the tube is 212g.. Heavy stuff!

Howdy,

Might have one of these landing in my shop sometime soon.

Saw the thread, was wondering if anyone's still out there.
