Global RC MX2 50cc build

This is a build of a Global RC 50cc MX2. Global RC are a UK distributor for GoldWingRC who are based in China, not sure of a US distributor?

I carried out a build review on one of their earlier designs for the Sukhoi SU-26 and the model was very nice. However there were some issues with quality of HW supplied, undercarriage mounting being weak, pipe tunnel too short for a most cans plus a few other bits and bobs. The model did however fly really nicely, 3D monster but with short moment arm it wasn't going to win any IMAC comps. So when this came out I thought I would give it another go and see what updates they have done to the design.

So far all I have is the box has arrived at my house and my daughter "helped" me take the lid off :lol: Will investigate further a bit later and put up some more pics.
Really looking forward to this one

Small child not included

Re: Global RC MX2 50cc build

Had a chance for a quite inspection and it does look very nice 8-)

Tank pre-installed, closed loop wires pre-installed 8-)

Canopy is much inproved over the old designs

Although mine did come with some small damage Easy fixed though with a drop of CA.

Closed loop installed

Far better pipe tunnel then that last designs i.e. longer so it will fit a wider selection of cans

Undercarraige is improved with a one piece design now

And it looks far stronger than the old design, big plus

Fuel tank in, pumbed and labled. I will probably replace this with my favored tank from Glens but this one looks fine

Re: Global RC MX2 50cc build

Really looking forward to this one to be honest. Got to finish the Carden Yak off first and get some gear together for this one but I should be ready soon.

Ordered some new servos today and decided to go for something a little different from the normal JR/Hitec costly route so i have gone for these;

Five of these HD servos only cost £120 and have 16kg torque :af Mainly thanks to reveiws and feedback on this site encouraged me to go this route

Also thinking about one of these from TBM, an ignition battery eliminator;
WRC Wike R/C Products IBEF Ignition Battery Eliminating Filter - For 5 and 6 cell NiMh and NiCad, and 2-cell A123 batteries (Not for unregulated LiIon or LiPoly) (WRCIBEF) - troybuiltmodels.com

Right, I have actually started this baby now. Still not quite finished on the Carden but couldn't wait any longer :lol:

The servos have turned up and they fit in the wings, I was a bit worried about this as they are a bit deeper than the normal servo size. I'll take some pics to compare later on.

Servo in wing;

The only control surface you need to fit is the rudder, keeps the box size down I suppose;

Re: Global RC MX2 50cc build

Here are some pics of the rudder control install, I hate this job as I always balls it up :lol:

Liking the new hardware supplied in these kits, much better than the old ones

Closed loop was pre-installed so it was only a matter of connecting it up. Nice carbon tailwheel assembly fitted. Used my own hex headed screws here as the ones supplied last time were weak and broke off as I was fitting them. The ones supplied this time look ok but I like the hex headed screws 8-)

Some downsides to this I suppose as I would of liked to double loop the wire through the brass washer and fit some heatshrink over that again for extra security. I'll drop some thin CA in there just to be sure.

For info, here are some comparison pics of the new Power HD 9150MG servos from HobbyCity

As you can see they are a little taller than a standard servo but all other dimensions are the same.

Subbed. Looks great so far! Can`t wait to see it finished. I have the Goldwing 68" SU26m with HD servos. Fantastic flyer.

Didn't see the MX2 on the Goldwing site. You have a link? By the way, I did see a 58" MX2 in the Fagen scheme - that one is sweet.

Re: Global RC MX2 50cc build

Yesterday saw the rudder being finished off and the elevators started.
Rudder servo in and closed loop fitted. The way they pre-installed the CL is nice with one end finised and the other left loose for you to tighten up and fit to your servo / arm choice

Stabs trial fitted. A good fit here with the stab tube being nice a firm and a good flush fit against the fuz

Same issue here with the servo arm cutout as I had with the Sukhoi. It is spaced for the supplied HW which means you have to cut the hole out for flush fitting arms

Finished elevator

Congrats of the successful start andyjayh.
Hey, Looks to me like you can stop saying "ALWAYS" too!!!
These really look superior. Did it come with a CF spinner?
Have you considered where to mount a fuel dot and power switches? Looks like the fuse sides have been "swiss cheesed" pretty throughly, leaving this task for the creative minded?

What engine do you have set aside for it ?

Re: Global RC MX2 50cc build

Hi Mark (I set your trade account up on HighAlpha ),

Yeah looks like I got this one fairly close. I used a piller drill to get it straight this time but I still needed about four hands to keep it at the right angle, god knows how I am going to do the aileron ones

Yes been thinking about the fuel dot as you say there is a lot of covering to secure to I'm going to use a dual switch / fuel dot from Secraft so I only have one item to mount. I will make a plate up to patch a hole and mount. Pretty much what I had to do with their old Sukhoi kit.

Didn't come with a spinner but they are one of the cheapest 50cc kits available in the UK that are off a good quality so I suppose that's what comes of keeping the costs down. Also no wing bags which I don't like as I have to keep the wings in the big box until I go and buy some

I have a DL50 set aside for this one, always had good results from these engines and I now have four of them Probably use an MTW canister as I have one on my bench which seems to fit.

Re: Global RC MX2 50cc build

Just have to say that the quality of this kit is really top notch and Global have really moved on with these new designs. The hardware supplied is excellent and far better than the old designs like my Sukhoi. Just compare the control setup on the old kit to the new;

The old design

This new design

So you now get load bearing spacers for both sides of the surface plus the rounded washer to ensure a good fit. Turnbuckle control rods which make the setting up of the surface a breeze, no need to rely on subtrim and therefore get a mismatch between surfaces.

The additional cost these kits now come in at which is less than most have put up prices for the same stuff, they are now real bargains. You don't feel like you are dealing with a cheap kit so to speak, this is a quality kit for not much money
