Evolution 260 radial

Does anyone have any experience with the Evolution 260 radial? I want to install this engine in my 33% Waco, but our field has noise restrictions, 96db at 20 yards, per AMA guidelines. Any info would be welcomed!!
Thanks, Scott

The one I saw was pretty quiet- remember, this engine is a TORQUE monster, so swing a big prop at low R's, otherwise if you rap it up with a smaller prop for "a cool sound" your engine life will be greatly diminished. The one I saw at Warbirds over the Rockies dead sticked after about 10 flights, sadly destroying the 33% Stearman it was bolted to. But, he was running the crap out of it. Got any pics of your 33% Waco? I LOVE that plane! Is it the AMR?

Yep, the AMR kit. Still in the building stages as of right now, so no pictures. I must say that it has been a pleasure to build this airplane so far. Wonderful kit that I purchased for my winter project, which I started on in August maybe. Once I opened the boxes, there was just no way to set it back until winter time, which by the way, does not look like it is gonna make it around to us this year, high 60's today, 70's this weekend.
Stopped work on it for a while as hunting season approached, but since our weather has been so wacky, I am back on it now. My only concern with this engine is if it will fit in the front of the cowl. It's gonna be tight, but I think it will go. only other concern is cooling. And it's way less expensive than the Moki !!!!

Subscribed. I'm hoping this thread can put fouth some good data on Evolution 260 radial engine.
It's a beautiful looking engine. Would like to have one if it proves reliable.
Just for the record - I currently own and fly a Moki 250.

Thanks - Jaketab

I seriously considered the Moki 250, but I could not justify the cost with the wife !!! I'm not telling her how much the Evo is gonna cost. Placing my order next week, and will do some preliminary test soon. Still have to make sure will fit in the Waco cowl first though....

Well. I got the Evolution 260 radial in today. Man, what a beautiful piece of machinery !!! Collector ring is already installed, along with the ignition. can't wait to bench run it this weekend, weather permitting, and if I can build a stout enough test stand between now and then. I will try to post a video if possible.
It will barely fit in in the cowl for my Waco, if it were not for the cowl blisters, I'm not sure if it would fit. the rocker arms even match the cowl blisters!! first impression......

Well, I finally got to run this bad boy for a few minutes before the rain started. All I can say is WOW !!
It took a while to finally get fuel to the engine. Had to resort to using an electric starter to get the engine running the first time. Throttle response is incredible as is the sound. Sounds like a hot rod. Stopped the engine after a few minutes, let it cool, then I was able to hand start it the second time. When I can get back to the field again, I will try to make a video of it and post it here. Really gave me the incentive I needed to get back to building the Waco !!!!
