They are sheeted with 1/16" light density balsa wood.

Wow. I am surprised that the balsa provides that much strength!
Did you uses 4" wide sheets or did you find wider skins?

The reason that I ask is that I am in the planning stages of a 50% Electric Clipped Wing Cub.
180" wingspan, 2 piece fuselage, Hacker A100 power. I was attempted to glean as much information as possible regarding you "Ultra Light" techniques.

I have a friend who has a CNC foam cutter to cut me the cores. I was thinking of a single 2" composite tube. Additinally I was going to add a single hardwood stringer top and bottom (inline with the tube). Do you think that I need anything else for strength?

I was going to skin using 1/64" maple veneer to skin the wings. I can locally source this in 3' x 8' pieces. I thought that I needed the strength but apparently not is you use 1/16" balsa. Also the Maple veneer is much heavier than balsa.

B.T.W. - Thanks for going to the effort to post all your techniques.

Not trying to step on any toes here, but here are a couple pics of the 55% wing prep work we did on my recent build.
The wing tube is extended using carbon fiber 1/4" hollow rods inlaid into the foam surfaces being glued in with Gorilla Glue. There is also 1/4" holes drilled between the upper and lower spar reccesses for the wings two carbon rods prior to installing these rods. The holes between the top and bottom are filled with gorilla glue to act as a shear web between the carbon spar extensions. These holes are maybe every 4". We over lapped the end of the wing tube's outer support and carried them out to the wing tip. This as per kit instructions.

Thanks for the information. Did the 1/4" carbon tubes come with the kit?
What are the pieces perpendicular to the tube?

The tubes do not come with the kit because the builder can use tubes or 1/4" x 1/4" hardwood. The other strips you are asking about are 1/16" sheeting embedded flush with the foam, this is so when the sheeting goes down with open bays on top of these; the grain is opposite to the embedded strips and keeps the the caps from trying to split under twisting loads.

Anybody still flying these 55% 260's?

I recently picked up a mostly complete model with a DA200. In a perfect world I'll have it ready for Fall Nall but that's yet TBD.

I've got the plans also. A few finishing touches, add the servos etc and go fly..........as simple as that sounds. Are you still flying yours?

I loved the way mine flew. It also had a DA 200. I had sold it to a buddy and unfortunately had an accident when his radio quit on him. It was sad to hear because the plane flew great.

Just a quick tip. If you are using the 4 cylinder 200, make sure that you baffle it.
