I'm excited to hear how they perform! I currently own use JR servos, usually 8711, so saving a lot of money for a great servo would be awesome!

I wasn't trying to start a chief bashing hijack of this thread, I was merly pointing out that they sometimes don't really have stuff they say they do. I always had good luck when calling them to place an order, so I don't get the 'cancelled order' email. I will use chief or anybody who has what I need when the time comes, I DON'T DISCRIMINATE! LOL

I'm not "bashing" just telling my first hand experience with them. I lived close enough to them where I would get my order the next day with regular UPS ground and still didn't order from them ever again after that experience.

Does anybody know about the 7940s? I don't see those anywhere. They are the fast version of the 7950s. I'm looking forward as well to some actual field results with these servos. I wouldn't mind getting some of these in the near future.

So maybe it has been answered many times but with these 7950 servos (5 on the way for my 50cc suqkoi) what is the battery of choice and is there gonna be a problem with the 72mh futaba or hitec reciever running 7+volts from a lipo? or should I just use a NiMh 5 cell 6volt?

if you were only going to run 6v , why not just run the 7955 ? this servo is ment to handle the high voltage .. not sure about your RX

You still get more power on 6V when compared to the 7955

I guess thats a good point, but if these are only designed to run larger voltages then why does the spec sheet have a listing for 6v operation?
I kinda have already decided to run a 7v lipo 2 cell (charging seems a bit scary) but also my question was about the RX and how do they handle the larger voltages?

As long as you're running Spektrum, you're fine. If you're running 72 / Futaba, then you'll need a power expander of some sort

ok for a newby "then you'll need a power expander of some sort" is a bit vauge.
could you please expand the information somewhat, like who make this and what does it do, and how does it affect the RX? and is it Futaba only? cause I use a CAP9 Futaba 72 but I have used Hitec RX in the past with good success.

Over, The expander he is speaking of sends a lower voltage to the RX and full voltage to the servos. There are some cheaper ones and some like the smartfly power expander they have several types of varying abilty and price range.

Hi Oversire,

Welcome to FG, where you get some of the soundest advise that you could ever find. Alot of goofy opinions as well, but a great place to learn from and share knowledge.

As far as receiver voltage goes, if you use any of the new JR/Spektrum 2.4 GHz receivers, they are designed to handle up to 12 volts and a straight 2 cell lithium will be no problem. If you decide to use a JR or Futaba 72Mhz those receivers were only designed to handle no more than 5 volts, that is why you would need to "power expander product".

Products such as the Smart Fly Power Expander and the PowerBox brand or Emcotec, they filter the voltage down to five volts for the receiver while providing higher voltage to the servos themselves. These are all excellent brands that I mentioned and very reliable. I personally use all Smart Fly products. They make an outstanding product with great customer service and very reasonable prices compared to some of the other brands. Just check out the link above and you will see everything they offer.

So if I just stick with the 5 cell 6v NiMh batt I can still use my 72h system and get the pretty good power from these 7950 servos?
