50cc gasser questions for a gaint newbie

Hey guys, I am new to the forum and new to large planes ( about to purchase) There are no guys around where I fly that fly large scale planes. I am mainly a Helicopter guy (3d). I have a few foamies that I fly. I am not new to planes in general just large scale. I have always wanted a large 3d plane, but I have a few questions. Is there any 50cc models that will really have that floatie feel and harrier easlily like a foamy and hover pretty easliy, or is that reserved for the very large birds like the 40% planes.
How about the wildhare planes do they fly with this type of performance???

I will be honest I have around $1200.00 to $1400.00 to invest in the setup and would like to not spend it all LOL.

I have read that hobby city has a DL 50 is this a generic DA 50. I am new so do not laugh. What other light engine options are out there ( I do not want to add alot of weight, this achevies more of a floaty feel Right??)

I have a few things like some Hitec 6975 servos and some various lipo batteries to power a specktrum ar 7000 reviever with a regulator.

Thanks for the help guys and I am in no rush to purchase ( well maybe LOL) but I want to buy it right the first time as there is no large gas guys around here to help, Thanks

I have a WildHare Edge 540T V2 that will harrier on low rates. The plane is remarkable. As for the DL, if you are going to buy one I would recommend you buy it from Bob Kramer at DLUSA. He has outstanding service and has been the importer of these engines since their inception. There are other inexpensive 50cc engines out there also. XYZ has a new one, Area 51 has one, and CRRC has one so look around before you buy. Good luck with your entry into gassers!! You might want to look at this thread.

hey man, i have a 30% tocxtreme yak 54 with a da 50 it weighs 15 pounds. I have to say it flys amazing! It floats and 3d's just like a foamie. It hovers with very little input! I recommend you look on the troybuilt models website they are having a clearance sale on the toc xtreme yaks! i reccomend you buy a tocxtreme or a pilot rc. I have flown both they fly great! In terms of servos you should try 4 Hitec 5985's on the elevators and ailerons and a 7955 on the rudder. thats whats on mine. It's great! And for batteries use a Duralite litium ion battery package for 50cc planes! IT will help. I think you should try it! YOu'll like it! Good Luck!

Before you buy ANYTHING from TOC I would suggest you read this thread. There's a reason everyone is having closeout sales.

The 6975's should be good for the ailerons and elevators. I would suggest getting a 7955 on the rudder. You can usually find some good deals on them when people resell them (that is what I use RCU for). There are usually some good deals on here also. Check out the swap shop. The DL-50 is a great engine and the XYZ is looking like a great performer also. These are both around $350 plus shipping. Make sure the lipos are only 2 cell 7.4V ones. If you are on a budget like yours, I would suggest finding good used equipment to start with. I purchased most of my stuff used on my 50CC gasser and it didn't break the bank.

Might look at HobbyCity.com also. They have a 52cc gasser w/sidemount carb, EI, standoffs, etc. I bought one about 3 or 4 months ago. It runs EXTREMELY well and is very reilable. It is a bit soft on power compared to a DA50 though. I have been flying it on a Seagull Extra 260 71" wingspan.

Now here's the good part $179 is all that I paid for it. I orderd on a Monday and it was here on Friday from Hong Kong.

I would suggest a DL, or the new XYZ 50HP.

If it is soft on power on a 71" wingspan model, it will be disappointing on a 30%er with an over 80" wingspan.

i would personally stay away for purchasing from hobby city they offer no warranty for there engines that they sell. i have talked to people that purchased from them and i firmly believe that the engines they sell are not the same quality and the usa distributors. infact one engine had about 1/16" free play in the front bearing and they said it was what is was and it is normal. spend a few extra dollars and get from dlusa.com or even troybuilt. dl offers a inhouse warranty but i'm not sure with troybuilt you will have to ask. hopefully you wont need it but it does pay to keep your back end covered.

This is what I'm flying http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=2281 I have the red/black scheme. I really love the way it flys and everyone that I have let fly it has been amazed. At the Ohio Huckfest last year one sponsored pilot that had 3 40% planes with him said it was the best flying plane he flew all weekend. He was wanting the home number of the company owner so he could order one on Sunday.

Hey Josh, you need to come by the lake sometime and bring the big Slick, Ive been pondering this for a 50cc plane to play around with when I dont feel like hauling the 40%ers out. I would really like to see it, Ive seen Andy's little one and its nice and light .
