I feel your pain too Rob, did the same thing before but was the final clear coat, bumped the bucket and it went rolling across the floor. it looked like that grip coat stuff you put on stairs when I picked it up. Had to strip and start over. Very frustrating.

Figured I'd give an update here.

I kinda got side tracked on a bunch of other things that needed my attention outside of the hobby so not much has been done lately.

I figurted I better brush up on my covering skills before I started to cover the Mono's wings as well as try out a few idead I had in mind. In order to do that I had to finish building the Profile plane I have been building for teh new Evo 10cc gasser I bought. So I did that and started covering it last night while watching a movie with the family. I decided to see if it was a viable option to laser cut the covering and save a ton a time. all the parts were drawn in CAD and it did work pretty good but there is room for improvement. Though it's not the Monocoupe, below are the pics of the wing from last nights progress. Once I get this done, I'll be putting the final touches on the Monocoupes wings so they can be covered.

I am sure it would. The trick is getting the covering to lay flat. I have some ideas on that one.

What material would said checkers be cut from?

I got the Katana 98% covered last night. gotta add some trim pieces and she is in ARF form.

Aluminumium checkers. Of course! Lol.. Try carpet tape btw.. See ya soon buddy.

Actually a vacuum system would work perfect. Wouldn't take much to keep it put except when the laser beam cuts the vacuum loose. Never mind.

My laser can not cut aluminum. I can engrave on it though, lol. I can cut paint masking templates though.

Carpet tape is a great idea How could I forget the carpet tape, lol. The vacuum idea would not work well though in the laser lol.

My vinyl cutter does a great job cutting ultrcote. The backing makes it work well.

short answer...no

I have been so busy with real life that I have not had any time in the shop. for the first time in a long time, my building tables are clean and empty waiting for me. I can't seem to get 10 minutes in to build or even fly. I did get some time about 3 weeks ago and made alot of progress on the LE shaping of the wings.

The katana is done, ready for the maiden. It's been done for a while now. The Evo 10 has had a few tanks ground run on it to break it in enough to change the prop to a better suited one and get the tuning close. I have used more of the gas for that engine on the chainsaw than the Evo.

It will get done...someday, lol. I really do want to fly it.

Yeah, I think that is the way to go. I just wanted to experiment with it and see if it was possible.

Hey Rob..

It's a start. Knocked the corner off of the inner outer circle thing with the router table. Hopefully we will be pulling a mold in a few weeks.
