I thought I knew what this was but now I'm not sure so excuse the non dealer question.

What exactly is "xa" flying? (As I dare to ask)

XA stands for "Xtreme Aerobatics" or Super High Energy Aerobatics such as your rifle rolls on the deck, 90 degree down-lines into low wall maneuvers at about 5-10 feet....Along those lines.

Traditional 3D is generally done post stalled with relatively low energy, guys like Kyle Woyshnis are considered to be the masters of this type of flying, making the airplane dance down on the deck.

3DXA is more-so done on the wing and is done with keeping the airplanes energy and momentum very high by using lots of throttle. Spencer Nordquist is very good at this and demonstrates it here perfectly with the PAU Extra 300:

Spencer Nordquist Final Smackdown XFC 2016 (3 min 56 sec)

3D is all about low n slow, 3DXA is all about fast n low.

So what your saying is the older we get the less likely we are to do 3dxa<G>.

Thanks all, and sorry to take away from the topic. Decisions, Decisions.... I really like the looks of the extra but its sounding like viper might be the way to go. I do most of my flying high just for the extra room for any mistakes but would like to work into this low and slow 3d stuff.

Thx

Calm day with a Viper and you'll be dragging the tail on the ground in no time from your description of needs. $.02 Designed for altra stable, ultra low and slow with a nice twist of IMAC style precision (just snaps slower, can't have cake and eat it too unfortunately).

I was just thinking. We have to have a different classification if you do both in the same flight. Since Gaby is the best at that. It should be called "G3DXA"

PAU EXTRA 105" weights

I got another 6 flights yesterday. I weighed some components: (all in grams)

Fuselage: 9650 (with stabs, engine,etc.) - dry
Wing tube: 224
Wings: 1450 X 2
2s Nanotech 45c 5000mah - 300 X 2

Total:13374 ~ 29.5lbs

A little heavier than what I was hoping but never the less fly's great. The big surprise were the wings - it's a lot heavier than the wings on my Viper. I will weight it again just to be sure.

"Artistic Aerobatic Ballet" sums it up, as it incorporates the precision of traditional free-style, slow 3D and XA styles into one flight envelope.

2016 Chattanooga 3D Jam

We got a lot of flights on the PAU Extra at the 2016 Chattanooga 3D Jam. Lots of interest in this frame. I was able to meet Alex Barron - a local from the Atlanta area.

Here is a video of him flying the PAU Extra:

Looks like your getting used to the extra. You look like you were having fun. Is the extra starting to grow on you?

The Extra is definitely the most aggressive one I have.

My CG was all wrong prior to flying at the event. What a big difference after I got it correct. Yes - it's something I plan to fly quite regularly.

Four of the new Extras were flown a couple of weeks ago at Clover Creek, by Sacha Cecconi (who flew mine), Andrew Jaworski, Kal Reifsnyder ans Spencer Norquist.
The planes all performed very well, and we added a Holy Smokes pump on mine for the contest.
We were impressed with the light weight, thick smoke, and ease of programming of this pump now sold by PAU.

Herve I saw a vid of spencer flying the PAU edge. I guess he probably flew both on different days. Also gaby flew the edge like he did when he won the xfc and TAS. Any plans of him flying the extra in future? Would love to see him fly it in competition as well.

Possibly: Gaby build his Extra recently, and there was not enough time to practice, then crate and ship the plane in time for Clover Creek.
Years are passing, and Gaby will finish school and enter to professional world very soon. This makes practicing and competing much more difficult in terms of time and dedication it requires.

I understand and wish him the best in his professional life.
