What brand of oil you using?

Guys, let me know what brand of oil you swear by.

Remember, what is available locally to you, it might not be here for me in Canada.

Of the 5 guys in our club going to gas this year, 2 have flown, and my plane is just now ready to run for break in.

The other 2 guys are using Red Line racing two stroke. But it is a little out of the way for me to get.

Stihl oils are available close by.

I have a couple cases of Klotz KL-200 synthetic racing left over from the days of mixing my own nitro. But am reluctant to try it because have not read of anyone using it.

My engine is a DLE-55 on a MTW pipe. Manual sais to break it in on a 30:1 mixture.

Thanks..............Chad.

Well I guess I take from the response I shouldnt have asked, this must be the #1 stupid question on this thread, or has been asked a 1000000000000 times before (couldnt find the thread, got tired of lookin`), or is like the "Boost Tabs" thread I take it..........lol.

Just wanted other options besides the local brand Canadian Tire here carries..............

Chad, there are at least a million posts on oil on this site. If you can get Stihl close by then your problems are solved. I use the Stihl Supra, I think that's what it's called, their mineral blend, for break in at 32:1 and after three or four gallons I switch to the Ultra at 50:1. It's fine oil..........................

Re: What brand of oil you using?

I got tired of buying little tiny bottles of oil, so I went on a mission to find something in larger bottles. I found Husqvarna XP oil in 1 gallon jugs for about $25 + shipping.

http://norwalkpower.com/husqvarnaxp2...rallsizes.aspx

Been using it in all my gassers for 5yrs. No engine failures yet. I mix it 40:1, but the bottle says you can use any mix from 32:1 up to 50:1. I break in 5 gallons at 32:1 and then lean to 40:1. I see no reason to go leaner. I love my engines.

Am I going to sit here and tell you it's the best oil in the world? NO.
Is it the worse oil in the world? NO.
Does it work? YES.
Do I have to wipe a little oil off the bottom of my plane after a day of flying? YES.
Do I care? Not in the least. Better to wipe a little oil splatter off the bottom of the plane than shell a motor every couple gallons.

Honestly, you could buy the cheapest black label oil from the bottom shelf at wally world and run it in your airplane engine with no ill effects. Just be sure and use air cooled oil. Be sure and mix it according to the directions on the oil bottle. Don't tune your engine too lean.

Just pick one and mix it right. Go fly it.

Depends on what I'm flying. For fun it's Redline 2 stroke racing oil or Motul 800. Professionally it's Stihl HP Ultra.

It would be interesting to see all the different oil types being used if people can stay away from the "mine's bigger" debate.

Re: What brand of oil you using?

Remember a few years ago "the" oil was Amsoil, then it was Belray H1R, then Belray MC1, and now its Redline. I didn't like Amsoil and the H1R (carbon whiskering). Have not tried the Redline but I have 2 gallons of MC1 that I am not going to give away cause its been working well so far. There, let the war start !

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

I just want to be careful with my engine, since it was a lot of money on my budget, and any advice, no matter how small it may seem to some, is a big bonus for me.

Chad.

QuickSilver by Mercury. Get the Air Cooled. They do make one for liquid cool. 100 to 1. Been using the stuff since '97.

Chad...it is all good...

You do realize that T.O.M. has a pager... that brings him out every time someone asks about oil, don't you?

I use Redline at 40:1

but ANY quality oil will be just fine!

and Awwwwwaaay we go!
