Setup questions! refresher! PLEASE

Hey everyone, looking for a refresher regarding PROPER setup! For instance, setting up aileron servo linkage, throws, travel and subtrim. Please help. As of right now I'm using this sequence:

1. Spektrum travel ( two separate channels for ailerons) is set to 140 to allow a 10 point buffer for mixes.

2. Place aileron servo arms as parallel as possible to the hinge line. 0 subtrim.

3. hook the linkage to the neutral control surface.

4. adjust spline OR rod length to equalize throw either side of the 0 point.

5. At this point use subtrim to " RE-NEUTRALIZE" the actual aileron????? ???????????( I realize servo arm may not be perfectly 90 degrees OR where I originally placed it.

6. I used this sequence and needed WAY too much subtrim to bring it back to neutral. something's wrong!

OK. Is it safe to say you almost "fake" the center point by using the sub trim to bring it to 90 degrees, then after all the linkages are hooked up measure throw and make it equal by lengthening or shortening the rod? I realize the travel adjustment setting has to be the same in order to keep the servo speed and resolution the same.

If the linkage is 90 degrees, and the surface is centered, then that is the correct length for you linkage.

Also, FWIW, set your end points to 100/100, it gives you head room for mixes and sub trim, then if you need more throw up the end points when you're done, making sure you're getting movement all the way to the stick end

You wont feel any difference in resolution between 100/100 and 140/140 in flight unless you're an extremely talented (think QQ or Seth Arnold) pilot.

This is probably obvious. But, I'll throw it out there.
Step 2 and 4 have to be done with the servo powered up and responding to the Tx.
