You can get more flying time from lithium batteries for the same weight but the whole system will be a bit more expensive. If you want to use NiMH I would suggest the PowerExpander Sport Plus and use our failsafe switch. If you want to go with lithiums then I would suggest using the PowerSystem Sport Plus with the failsafe switch. These units have everything you need for that size plane in one unit. Let me know if you have more questions.
Hi rrritchey what batteries do you recommend for the smart-fly PowerSystem Sport Plus with the failsafe switch

ONe of these,

http://shop.desertaircraft.com.au/ca...e/c86/c94/p391

and a single A123 two cell pack. Dont know where you get them locally, I make mine.

Works for me.

or if you feel better with two batts/switches

two of these,

http://shop.desertaircraft.com.au/ca...e/c13/c23/p308

and your favourite switches.

IMO NiMH arent that good and lipo are too hazardous and regs are needed.

It really depends on the flying time you want. Most people that I sell the Sport Plus to will also buy 3 Fromeco 2600mAH batteries. This will give you at least 10-12 flights between recharges. If you want to save weight but only get 4-5 flights you can go with a pair of 1350s for the radio.

keep it simple and almost fail proof, 2 a123's for reciever and i personally go 1100mah apiece and get 5-6 flights in before i charge but could go longer. and do the a123 on ignition or a 4.8v nimh on igntion. wolverine switch works great for reciever also for both batteries.

Remember, I know this is a big plane for you, but it is still only a 50cc. You don't need all that fancy stuff in there. Save the money for when you get up to 100+cc. The setup that Jamesrxx is recommending is what I use on my 100cc planes and it is a lightweight, simple way to go. The only thing I added to what he recommends is a Fromeco DC-up - $35.00US:

Re: new power system setup

hey bodywerks i was thinking of setting up my 100cc extra the same way i have my 50cc yak with the 2 1100a123's. how much flight time do you get on that set up. i cannot believe that it would be that much less flight time but i do have the 7955's in the 4 corners and a jr8711 on rudder vs 5985's on my yak. but it's going to be a imac plane only.

Re: new power system setup

i like the set up looks good. if it were me i would use the 5v reg for ignition. makes less heat in the ignition thus helping out with reliabilty unless the ignition has a built in reg already. what engine are you using? i see the big 3w in your avatar but still asking. https://www.tanicpacks.com/index.php...3cf58947673e89
here is the packs i use but duralite is a great battery also. just depends on size you want. i wanted 1100mah and duralite didn't offer them.
http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/items/42SWITCHJR.html that switch will be just fine for ignition. i use the same one

Re: new power system setup

cool on that dle55 ignition you definatley want a 5v reg to. i havent used a 22a vess prop but i do have 23a and my motor spins that 7400 rpm so that 22a might be alittle to small for this engine. xoar 22/8 works good and menz 22/8 mejzlik 22/8 are good also but the vessess just really unload that engine for awsome thrust.
