I called Top Dawg Aviation a few minutes ago and was told that the returned engines have already been shipped to Italy for the factory repair work.

Just in time for them to come back (If at all - didn't someone say they wouldn't be able to import those things after august?) in mid winter - then people will gush at the "Shiny" but have little chance to put fuel through them for many months - in which time they have a perfect sales window where they have quietened some and no further failure reports wil be around.

I hope it works out for the better for those end users who are keeping them.

As far as VV40 or VV20, they are looking pretty good right now.
Never said one bad thing about Mentor engine.I though you may want a flying report on the VV 40. Guess thats what I get for thinking.

Bill - I wasn't referring to you when I posted that - I hope you didn't take offence to it.

For those who don't know who BCCHI is - he is an "old fella" who has been involved in this hobby longer than most of us have been alive. He has seen them all come and go (and only a couple stay). In fact, one could say that without his efforts, we wouldn't be enjoying the majority of the engines we enjoy today as the most commonly used ignition pretty much came from him and his colleagues.

So Bill - how's the Mintor - Oops - I mean "Leg". doing now?
(excuse me for that - they both break easy so it is an easy mistake to make )

Sorry, BCCHI, I misunderstood what you were saying.

Regarding the new ignition, is that the RCXCP, with the smaller case and higher voltage? I've seen them on sale in the RCUniverse (OOPS, am I allowed to say that here?) Buy&Sell site. I just purchased a used older-type gasser with a side-carb because it fits in the plane I plan on putting it on. The length of the cowl is too short, so the newer rear carbs won't fit. If the older ignition is not good enough, I might get one of the new RCExl ignitions for it.

Mintor mentioned in their last postings before summer holidays (in Italy) that they would only get to the collection of the engines once they got back from hols in the first week of September. Then they still have to discuss what they did during those holidays which would take us to the mid week of September.
Only then would thy get the paperwork in order, get quotes, and arrange for collection.

RCXP is not connected to RCEXL...rcextremepower sell RCXP...VERY good ignition...
And other things others have not even thought of ?? All I want is good spark at any rpm with low drain, 4.8 or maybe 6 volts...Why violate the K I S S principle with unwanted and unneeded stuff ??
Bill and I made the best ignitions out there for many years, no extra features wanted or needed...Shot down by cheap Chinese labor and OLD age. But I gotta say they are really good copiers..Except for the Syncro Spark, close but no cigar...YET.

Antique, maybe off topic a bit, but I have an older gas engine with its proprietary ignition module and bigger spark plug (NGK CMR7A). It has the same threads as the CM6 and so happens that the plug boot is broken. I am considering changing to a newer ignition and use the CM6 plug instead. Don't I have to worry about the temp range and electrode depth of the plug?

Will the RCXP work ok? I suppose the RCeXL would work too? How about C&H? Thanks.
