Wow. What's in store for next year. Variable pitch and thrust vectoring main prop too. That would make for some sick inverted hover pin wheels. I can see this could certainly lead to some hybrid "heli-planes" in the future. Great job Arron.

there's certainly ideas for next year, but if someone could engineer the VPP for me, I wouldn't turn it down

I don't fly helis so please pardon my ignorance...

The rotor is fixed-pitch, correct? Is the direction of rotation and rotor speed mixed to the rudder, or are you running it independently? If the rotor isn't mixed to rudder, how is it activated and controlled on the radio? Fixed RPM on a 3-position switch to select left, off, right?

I guess I'm just trying to figure out stick inputs to fly it...

-Case

Helicopter tail rotors are variable pitch. It looks like it is coupled to the rudder.

yup, the tail assembly from the heli is variable pitch... the pitch servo is mixed to the rudder on command by pressing a button, regular rudder operation without the rotor control when not pressed. switch to activate the mix on/off would be the same thing. I modified my transmitter to make activating such mixes quicker and easier for mid maneuver. some maneuvers are more graceful with the rotor if I finish the job with the rotor pitch deactivated and just the air rudder, the rotor is much more abrupt when it does its thing... the buttons allow me to activate/deactivate mixes mid-maneuver if I need to. Will be a standard feature on all my transmitters from here on...

Yet another out-of-the-box idea . Wouldn't be surprised to see this on some future manufacturer's transmitter down the road.

well... I can't take credit for the idea of push buttons on a Tx (though I don't understand why higher-end Tx's done have one or two), and I give credit to JR for "put it somewhere convenient" (slider on the back of the 11X, perfect for "thumbs" pilots), I just mixed the two
