Maybe if ignition units started becoming designed for 1S lipo or 3-cell nickel especially for these smaller engines, it might be worth it to have a separate battery.
if you are running 2.4, why not just plug the ignition into a unused channel on the rx, like the gear channel?

Very easy to use one of the outputs on the battery for RX, and one for ignition. Nice and simple and light.

So, I have an extra Radio South 6V regulator. Can I use that or do I need something else?

That should work just fine. Just make sure to put it in after the switch, or it will slowly draw power and kill the battery.

I will have to use a small ignition pack, I am sort of scared of powering ignitions, smoke systems etc, etc, off of my receiver battery, that is just me though.

well an extra battery for the ignition is not a big deal. I have a rcfg 20cc on on .46-.60 edge with a 2000 4.8V and doesnt feel too heavy. there is small batteries too.

This might be a suitable battery for the ignition:

http://www.allerc.com/product_info.p...oducts_id=4722

It's small (only 850mAh), but it's light (just 48 grams, a little less than 2oz's) and can be charged at 4C...

You would still need a regulator with that battery.

when i had a mld 28 in a smaller gas plane i just used a 800mah 2s lipo with a small reg. to be honest even after a diet with that plane, about a 8oz drop in weight i really could not tell much difference.

I am just going to use an IBEC off of the "gear" port, all powered by a 6.6V LiFe. The IBEC output is regulated to 5.8V into the ignition.
