Re: FG EXCLUSIVE: PRO FLOW 3-D CANNISTERS

This is a copy of my post on the Questions about the DA 170 thread:

This is a very special THANK YOU to Plane Bender. As I've posted on the Pro Flow thread, I installed them in my 40% Pilot Extra 260, replacing the KS95s that I had in it. I also put in new plugs and gapped them to .030.

This time of year is iffy for us, so it sat in the basement for a few weeks while we got 20 plus inches of snow.

We got a magic day today in the 50s with no wind and our friends at the Otis flying field on Cape Cod plowed their runway and pits.

The problems I've had in the past with my 170 is well documented, I won't repeat that and as far as I'm concerned it's in the past!

I can tell you beyond any doubt, I've never had a better running motor that what I had today. I got four solid flights in. I did not retune at all from where I had it at just lean of 5/8 on the bottom and 2 on the top. I'm running these on the 10.5" header.

OMG, I was completely blown away and other guys at the field commented on good my motor was running. I was feathering in on idle inverted to the deck; that motor was purrrrrrring like a kitten after a big bowl of whiskey laced warm milk; but when I jumped on the power about four feet to the ground, that SOB just ripped to life, holly crap. I am in love with this setup.

OK I decided to place all 3 videos right here for your viewing pleasure.
#1 Engine run up.
#2 Take of and fly after taxi out.
#3 low idle taxi.
As I mentioned, I prefer to fly my engine a hair rich.

Don I'm really looking forward to getting my 170 with my new Pro Flow's in the air.
The difference blows my mind.

Re: FG EXCLUSIVE: PRO FLOW 3-D CANNISTERS

Was at the field with Dave yesterday and watched him fly his demo flight for the video. It was 42 degrees and sunny. He flew low and slow and tried to force a mid range cough but the engine was rock solid. Dave tends/likes to run the low needle just a bit rich so there was just a very faint hint of a burble. Another 1/64 on the low needle and it would disappear. Works for me.
<O</O</O
After carefully watching the entire flight I have to confirm that the Pro Flows get the job done. I now have a set of the front dumps and they will go into my Comp Arf Super Extra with my 170. A second set of rear dumps will go into my 37.5 Yak with a 150. My 40% Pilot Extra will continue to fly with the KS 95s (with cross over) since they are installed and paid for.

<O</OCollectively we are very fortunate that Dave has been able to develop a solution that is focused on a performance issue that has vexed many 3D pilots.

<O</ODave, good job.<O</O

Don,

from what I've read, you made two changes here.
New Pro Flo's and a different spark plug gap.

Had you previously tested out your old cans with the .030 gap?

Just wondering if you attribute the purring motor at idle due to the cans alone, or a combination of larger plug gap and new cans.

thanks!

Hi Guys, I have compleatly redone the Video postings. I apologise for the problems. If anyone had issues watching them it might have been that I was working on them at the same time.
Check out post # 168.

Thank you.

No, Not yet. That would be interesting to see how they would react to 15 more CCs.

Oh heck yes dude! Video #2 when your hovering and you can hear how clean that throttle is, that sold me man. That's literally the first 170 I've seen do that and I just spent a year tuning on one with different header lenghts and re3's and couldn't get what you just showed me.
