First we start with the BLING.....

You've already seen the covers for the pull/pull.

Now feast your eyes on what the wheels can look like when done right!

Next its time to mount the 3W55 beast!

Like Ken I started by extending the lines. And used a template for the center cutout.

Next I used my paper template. I'd like to note that on my 3W55 I bought the engine mount for it. Its an alum bracket that fits on the back of the motor. The motor mounts to that and you mount the bracket to the firewall.

Here I do something a little different than most. I use a holesaw to cutout small circles of wood. I glue these to the back of the firewall with hysol. I install the blindnuts into these peices of wood. I use this method on all my larger gassers so I did the same here. Also I'm using the exact same spacers that I am using on the P-47.

I let the glue dry for a few hours so its real tacky. Then I re-install the motor to ensure it glues with the motor mounted so everything lines up. You can see where I had to cut the bottom flange of the motorbox off to fit the motor and muffler. Also I cut out a slot on the inside to make reaching the needles easier (not in the picture though).

While all that glue was drying I worked on the Elevators/Wings/Rudder/Tank.

First I glued in the Rudder with the Hysol since I had enough left over from the motor mounting. I taped it in place and consider that done.

Moving on the Elevators.....Take out the iron again and melt the covering for the servo arm and the control rods. If you notice in the pick the servo is in the elevator which makes the install a little tricky. I had to remove my servo arms for this to work because they were too long. Holes are predrilled for the servo screws. I'm not sure the elevators are setup for 8611A size servos. Also a pair of hemostats came in handy when you run the servo wire. It has to go through the servo hole and then back out through a circle hole. Easy to do.

Then I mounted up the hardware. This stuff is really nice. Holes for everything are predrilled again and elevators are already glued. I then added a 48in extension (I think a 44in would have been better) and used an Ernst wire keeper to keep them together and I installed the elevator on the plane with the Carbon Fiber stab tube. Did the same for the other elevator and they are now done

Moving on the tank and some electronics.

I plumbed the tank and put it where I wanted it. The Home Depot run netted me a nice large velcro strap. I also cut some mounts for my Optic Kill and Batteries. I also ran tightened up the pull/pull cables. I also made a mount for the ignition and put velcro on the back of the can tunnel for one spektrum satellite and another back in the turtle deck.

Moving on to the wings now.

Again very simple to do. Used the iron to burn covering for the servos and the linkages. Installed the servos (holes were not predrilled here though). Got everything lined up.

Now I do the wingbolts a little different. I don't like nylon bolts. Never trusted them. I took some 1/4 x 20 bolts and cut them size. I then Hysol them in the blind nuts. I use nylon wingnuts to secure the wings to the plane. This is the same setup all my planes have so I always have extra wingnuts in the toolbox.

Finally, here's a look at the 33% RedAero Pilot......He needs some paintwork but the size is about right!

Re: PAU 30% Sukhoi Su-26m Build and Fly

So things left to do.

-Mount the cowl and cutout bottom (will use Ryan's method in earlier posts)
-Install Ignition switch
-Install Fuel filler and run fuel/vent lines
-Install throttle servo
-Install choke rod
-Mount 2 regs with battshare
-Balance the plane so I know where to put my 3 batteries (2 x RX, 1 x Ignition)

So really not much left to do....I will finish it up this week when I'm not busy studying for work.

Astrohog, here is a link to the instrument panel I am building for my PAU Edge. Hope this gives you some ideas. https://www.flyinggiants.com/forums/...tml#post672771

8611-sized servos will fit in the stabs, but the mounting holes will need to be enlarged to fit them. In my opinion, best to stick with true standard size servos in the stabs on this plane. If you feel the need for monster torque (my 8411s are working perfectly BTW), a Futaba 9156 would fit in the stab no problem.

Re: PAU 30% Sukhoi Su-26m Build and Fly

Ryan,

I actually had to make the holes a little larger for my 9156's in the stabs. Not much, just a smidge!

Chris,

That is a good-looking panel! I should have made myself clearer. I am not too worried about the actual PANEL (I think I will do one up on the computer and just print it on photo paper and glue to the front of my panel!). Yours is a nice solution for the Edge and looks FANTASTIC!

If you look at the full-scale Sukhoi, you will see that the "dashboard"/instrument panel actually sticks up a ways from the horizontal window-line and occupies a substantial amount of the front of the cockpit. I plan on using quite a nice Lite-Pilots figure and I realized once "she" was in the cockpit, that it would look funny without the panel in front of her, so I proceeded to design a "trapezoid-like" cube that I will be able to slide through the back of the canopy and glue in place. I think I will try to cut the pieses out of depron, glue them together and paint it black, then glue my photo of the guage cluster to the front. Should provide at least a resonable facsimile for not alot of work/money and hopefully, very little weight penalty!

I will post pics when I think I have got it figured out!

Have fun with your VIII Edge! I love (both of) mine!

Regards,

Astrohog
