Is there an advantage if u use side force generators, do they really work, and if they do what is the optimal shape size?

There is an advantage in that they provide more side surface area for KE.

They certainly seem like they work. In the full scale world "stall fences" are often attached to a planes upper wing area because air tends to move outward towards the tips instead of directed totally back on the wing, the stall fences direct the air backwards, and increasing the effectiveness of the wing. I would think the side force generators do that, but in a huge exhagerated way. Personally, I like stall fences on full scale, but don't care for side force generators on models. I have left them off on several funtanas now.

The stall fence used in the STOL application keeps the air directed over the wing instead of allowing the air to move towards the tip in the stall configuration, this affectively decreases the stall speed of the wing by up to 5 knots in combination with a leading edge cuff in a loaded situation. We use STOL kits in full scale applications on float planes to get us off the water slightly quicker and also allows us to land on the water at a slower speed. The STOL kits reduce vibration by allowing lower speeds which translate into less time on the water. Less time on the water means less wear and tear on the airframe. Lower speeds also means the aircraft can get into and out of smaller lakes.

Winglets reduce the amount of air flowing from the high pressure area (under wing) to low pressure area (above wing), trying to equalize the air pressure. This "spill" spoils some of the lift and lowers efficiency of the wing. This flow combined with the forward movement of the aircraft creates vorticies. The winglets also reduce strength of the wing tip vorticies.

Askforairplanes has you covered on the droopy wing tips, they are part of the Cessna STOL kits produced by Horton( which also includes gap seals with the stall fences). The tip reduces the wing tip vortices thus increasing the lift at the wing tip. Vortices generated by large heavy aircraft is a big concern for any small light aircraft operating in heavy airspace especially around large aircraft airports as you well know as a full scale pilot. Have you snapped your Aerobat yet?

Yes, same effect. Except at supersonic speeds where it can be used to take advantage of the pressure wave.

Tim, I meant to ask you if you have snap rolled your aerobat yet?

I find that they work....On my smaller aircraft, like my tribute 36 profile and showtime 50, i find that the SFG's make the plane more docile and smoother in all aspects of flight. they also really really improve knife edge and i use a lot less rudder.

The guys at my field call them "training wheels" but I find i can do it with or without them. I just like them on..

Great vid, it looked like you were having a blast. Is the aerobat stock? I had one in the school that had been converted to a taildragger and had the 360-150hp, no waiting for the speed to come back. I also had a Mico-260 that I did a lot of aerobatics in. In the roll mode did you need opposite rudder to get a good straight roll or was it barreling out a little bit?
