Default Weight of Air Frames

Manufactures tell us the flying weight of their air frame. Sometimes we get there sometimes we are heavy. There are so many options that effect flying weight. Why donít manufactures just tell us the weight of the bare air frame, completed and put together. Cowl landing gear, control horns, wings and stabs attached with screws and wing tubes etc. attached.
No servos, batteries engine, switches, ignition, basically just what is in the box. Then we could compare the weight of the airframe and add our own stuff to get to flying weight. We could see if one plane was lighter than another.

good idea sir..

there are way to many factors to take in when getting a weight on one of these big planes.. then in the end people wouldn't cry about its to light or to heavy..

My problem is I always end up a little on the light side.

Because if they told you the bare bones weight and it was light you would complain why so? Did you skip on glue in the joints or is my fiberglass cowl/wheelpants too thin. Maybe my landing gear alum or CF is too thin.

If your plane ends up heavy then you would complain that there is too much glue, wood is too thick, paint is too thick, alum/CF gear and wingtubes are too thick.

They give you the all up weight because that is an avg expected weight for flying. Some will be above and some below based on the gear you decide.

I have A Laser 200 on the table but it is going to be a very slow build, our home renovation is taking first priority theses days.
