Battery Swelling

Hello, I am wiring up a new fueler and wired up a DPDT switch to a SPST switch and it all functions correctly but the battery I was using got so hot it swelled up real bad. It was a new battery so I figured it was just a bad one so I hooked up another and it did the same thing. Can anyone help me out and see if I've done something wrong? I am attaching pics of the switch wiring. Thanks The black switch goes to the battery and the red one goes to the pump

Guessing "not" Slappy.....just looking at the "picture" the SP is a direct short, normally the SP SW is breaking a single leg.

Big A is correct, when you close the Single Pole switch it will short positive to negative. Just run the black wire directly from the DPDT switch to the fuel pump and use the SP switch to break the circuit on the positive side.

OK I think I got it. I will take off the black wire from The SPSW and re solder the red to where the black was on the SPSW. Should that do it?
