Saito FG-21

Is anyone down under running the new Saito FG-21? Just ordered one and am trying to discover how well they run. Thanks.

Shouldn't you find out before you order?

Redesigned carb and valve seats, hopefully that did the trick.

I have this engine broken in and am mounting in my spacewalker 120. I am impressed. Easy starts, good transition and idles and sounds really good.

Excuse my sloppy appearance. I wanted to post soon after I took this vid. This was very early during break in.

fg 21 running (4 min 4 sec)

20:1...100% synthetic for break in and continuous operation per the manual. I'm using Horizon's Evo oil.

It is highly recommended in the manual for 40 minutes. Engine is tight and prone to quitting in the very beginning until it loosens up a bit. They are most concerned about the following...quote:

"engine Break-in

Do not skip the engine break-in; you will risk
seizing the conrod to the crankshaft.
The break-in process required for all Saito engines
is designed to break-in the conrod to crankshaft
interface more than to seat the ring. The ring will
seat gradually over time and the engine will develop
more and more power. The conrod needs to be
treated correctly from the beginning."

They all tell you to break in the engine on the ground I think it is just to stop peaple leaning out the motor too much too early resulting in engine damage.
If your fuel mix is rite and the engine has enough cooling and is not too lean there should be no reason why the engine will get damaged.
However bench running a motor you have less air flow over the motor we can somtimes result in the engine getting hot.
Hey though this is just my opinion as long as you have the right fuel mixture and right cooling you should be rite.
anyway looks like you have a nice motor there and i hope you have alot of fun with it.
regards Bill

This will be the test bed. Cowling still needs cut outs for cooling. Plane to fly without cowl until break in is complete.
