Hitec 5955's and JR matchbox...
I am going to gang up 3 Hitec 5955's for a rudder, and i was wondering if i can use a JR matchbox w/ them? I know i can program the Hitec servos so i wouldn't need any matchboxes, but i like the way the JR matchboxes work so i was wondering if i can use hitec servos and a JR matchbox together????
Thanks |

I see no reason why not.

Thanks.
Tank - I'm not disagreeing with you, but i would like to know why you recomend to program them instead... Thanks |

I would recommend programming them and using a Smart-Fly Power Expander. With a matchbox you are powering three hi-torque servos through a single servo connector (are they rated to 3 or 5 Amps?), hardly enough to obtain good results. With the PE, each servo gets a clean and strong signal and power.

I think then thats what i will do. (program them) because im going to use a power expander any way and i have more than enough channels to use.

Plus, you cant change the deadband without a programmer.

Re: Hitec 5955's and JR matchbox...
I used to use the matchboxes. They are good at matching end points and center, but that doesn't mean that the servos match in between end points and center positions. When you program the Hitec servos correctly, the servos will match at any point throughout their full range of travel.
I have actually noticed this on my planes. When I used matchboxes in the past, I could put the surface at full throw either way or at center, and the servos would not be fighting each other. Sometimes at positions in between center and full throw, I could hear the servos fighting though. Now that I program the Hitec servos, I can deflect my surfaces to any position and the servos never fight each other, they match throughout their full range of travel. This is why I use programmable servos now instead of matchboxes. Jim |

Re: Hitec 5955's and JR matchbox...
Maybe this is the wrong thread to ask, but since there are some Hitec servo "programmers" here, I'd like to ask this question. When programming center and end points on a Hitec servo, at what atv (Futaba, JR, Hitec, Airtronic) does it correspond to, when connecting to Rx?
I've watched the vids on DOD and it doesn't explain this. I understand how Joe programs the center and end points with the servos in the wing, kinda like a trial and error procedure, does he just have his radio set to the atv he likes to use and when switching around he decides whether to increase or decrease the programmed end points? Also, does anybody know if any of those protractors can be downloaded somewhere, or do I make them myself? |

When I first programmed 4 rudder servos i burned all end points out of all four of them. Watch carfully to see how many degrees of rotaion possible on that particular servo. I would set the ATV before programming. In my JR I set them at 150. Hope this helps. |

Re: Hitec 5955's and JR matchbox...
Maybe I don't understand your question, but the endpoints will still change after programming the servos, if you change your ATV on your transmitter. They will stay matched, but the travel can be adjusted.
I think most people will set their ATV at about 130% and then program the servo to travel the right amount. This way you get good resolution, but still have a little more travel if you need it. Jim |
