Mark, I moved my engine (DLE60) out 1" over stock standoff length. Plane balances 7" back from L.E. Planes flies very good. Going to mount the cowling now. Will send pics of completed plane when done. Will weigh it when complete. Mine is going to be a little heavy because I am going run two separate light systems for night flying. So I have to carry two 12 volt packs for them.

Good idea on moving the engine forward a bit. That airfoiled tail does add a little to much weight compared to the old stick built tail. I believe the over weight is lower which adds a little more. I'm thinking of just offering the flat tail to over come the CG issue.

Would love to see some pics. Thanks

You need to remember these planes were originally designed back when modified weed wacker engines were the norm.

By the way I was really looking forward to that 50cc Laser 200 you mentioned back a few posts. Did that ever come to fruition? I think the market is there for a real authentic looking Laser 200 kit. The Stephens Acro was another good idea.

I would not mess with the tail, I believe the airfoil helps in flight performance. The plane does things a Stinger didn't do. It knife edges very well, flat spins very good. But still will slow down and fly like a trainer. I'm very pleased with the plane.
You might consider just adding an inch to the nose.
