Not quite, the gimbals in the QQ are completely different from the regular DX18. I don't know if there are other physical differences that are not inside the case.

The DX18 has JR 9503 gimbals. The DX18QQ has its own gimbals. Now also used on the DX9.

I've heard many different versions of this, but you guys are right, I forgot the gimbals are different.

They both say Quad bearing gimbals in the descriptions. What is different between the 2?

I've had mine for 6 months and love it. I have big hands so it fits me very well. Love the easy programming!!!!!

To be honest, nothing. At least nothing your going to notice as far as feeling it. I now also own the DX9 (has the QQ gimbals).

Both VERY nice radios.

Is the 9 just a little smaller than the 18? Are the sticks a little closer to the edges of the radio? Sometimes I feel like I am stretching a bit on the 18 to get the sticks all the way to the middle.

Well it may be hard to tell from my pic, but there isn't a big difference. I have the sticks adjusted for height and tension so my hands can't tell the difference in flight.

The assy's fit in the same positions .
However, they are not the same mechanically.
Big difference is the use of two tension/ratchet pieces side by side, which can be adjusted externally to give any combination of drag and ratchet feel -on throttle
very nice and easy to do.
I opted for moderate drag with a touch of ratchet feel.

I admit the smooth and ratchet mechanisms being both there on BOTH gimbals is a neat concept, in mode changes, or just simply being able to change from smooth to ratchet or as said... Some drag with a hint of ratchet.

However if comparing for "feel", you would be having to really be "looking" to notice the difference. Both are high quality quad bearing gimbals. ( JR9503 and the 18QQ) are where these originated from.

Actually-more like they started with the sticks used by JR then added the refined adjustments.
I have both as far as exact movement - as good as anybody offers - It isn't necessary to build a gimbal from 2024 T3 to get a solid -accurate assy. The light feel is the real std for stick assys today.
years back ,we had the bar stock assy's with springs taken from the front of a Chev
remember -ther was no expo back then - so those setups helped make for smoother flights.

I had a chance to fly the DX18 today. I own a JR9303 and 11X. I like the DX18 except I have to stretch too far to get to the switches on the case top. On the 11X and 9303 when I pinch the sticks my index fingers are right on the flight mode, gear, thottle hold switches (I also fly helis and jets) but on the DX18 I have to practically let go of the sticks to get to those switches. Did anyone else notice this? Or do you just get used to it? Seems like a long stretch to me.
