Re: Skip Stewart's Prometheus

Hey Guys... I see there is some interest in the Prometheus project. I am new to the forum and just wrote a thousand word post that is lost in cyberspace..probably best I keep it short anyway
The Germans that built this model for me are sponsored by Exclusive Models (I know it's supposed to be spelled funny, but you know what I mean). They contacted me, after seeing my show at the United Arab Emirates show, to discuss building a plane for themselves. Interestingly, I was in discussions with a friend to scratch build a couple of 35%. So, I told them I would help them with all the documentation, but that I wanted one! (actually two) Mine was originally supposed to be a kit, but after becoming friends during the process they decided to build it for me and then come to my house in Memphis for a week to finish it up. I think I spent to much time flying with them in the full-scale, two-seat Pitts, because we didn't get it finished. That is where Jack came in
Basically, since these guys are sponsored by EM, they could cherry pick the parts bin at the factory. They wanted to use the eight foot span Pitts S-1 as a base kit. I told them I was afraid it would look like a Beetle that had been turned into a 911, but they conviced me that it would work. They got the cowl from one of the smaller Challenger kits and enlarged it, the canopy is from two different airplanes. They scratch built a second set of wings for it that are identical to the new ones I am building for the full-scale (they haven't flown yet). They also modified all the parts to change the S-1 into a Prometheus. Honestly, the plane came out way better than I thought it would, being an S-1 at the beginning. The only obvious difference is the turtle deck, which was my fault! I gave them an incorrect measurement. You can imagine the difficulty of coordinating a build with guys in a different country. I am also not happy with the wheel pants, which is why they have not been painted with the flames yet. We need to find some that are more scale, or I will just have to fab some from scratch.
3W built an engine specifically for me. It is a one of a kind pumped up version I'm told. Not sure about the specs, though. Also, Cactus Aviation has chipped in with some parts. Really great guys to deal with.
EM is considering making a true kit available after we fly the four modified versions and work out any quirks. There is quite a bit of interest in it overseas, so if anyone here is interested in one I'm sure sending them an email would help make the kit a reality. I know it is hard to compete with all the cheap arfs available. but these are nice kits.
The friend that was going to scratch build a couple of planes, before the German's got involved, also purchased a kit. He has since lost his job and is trying to sell it. If anyone is interested, just email me for the particulars or with any questions you may have about anything else....
I also attached a couple more pics of my plane...

Chris,
Nice bipes! What's your problem with black? My plane is a base of black, but has many other colors and is actually just as easiy (if not easier) to see in the air than your other bipes.. I know black is hard to keep clean and that is a legitimate concern, though. A dude in Germany had a 50% Challenger. After seeing my plane in the UAE he pulled the Oracle stuff off and made a bad-ass plane out of it Check it out...

Nothing against black other than I have a hard time with the covering. I love you scheme. First time I saw it in Springfield IL a few years back I said I was going to do one. Then I was promptly reminded why I don't have black airplanes. HHHHMMMMMMM So many planes so little time.

Re: Skip Stewart's Prometheus

I just looked at the schedule for the air show this weekend. Are you coming to Pensacola with Skip?
Blues on the beach - every summer we get the Blue Egos again in the fall for the Homecoming show.

Lucky dog you! No RC that weekend I bet!?
Pensacola was on their schedule when they did the MCAS Beaufort Air show! Jack - you are part of great crew and show!

You helped take my OSHA minded wife to a level of daring - she has never done before - and now says will not repeat!
