DLE 111 Ignition

Hi guys.

Got the DLE 111 and was wondering whether i can use A123 on the ignition w/o a reg.
was reading the TBM website they state that the DLE ignition is designed to run with anything under 6v.
So whats the word on that?

thanks
Alex

No, it will fry it over time. Use a 4.8 it is all you need or use a regulator.

Exactly, a 4.8V battery is all you need. Anything else will require a regulator or it can fry the ignition sooner or later. You can use the A123 with a couple of diodes to drop the voltage to around 5.2 volts.

I run either 2000mah or 2700mah AA packs as they weigh the same as a 1000 mah AA pack. I can fly all day without any fear of running out.

Alex man,

This is the CDI manufacturer for DLE:

Check the instructions.

Re: DLE 111 Ignition

According to technical data provided:

voltage Supply range by:

NiCd/NiMh 4 cell battery pack
(4.8v >500mA)

NiCd/NiMh 5 cell battery pack

(6.0v >800mA)

Li-Fe (A123)2 cell battery pack

(6.6v>1000mA)

Li-Poly 2 cell battery pack and other bettery or More

(use Switching BEC

voltage regulator. out 5.0V~6.0v) or (7.4V Li-Poly Serially connects two
IN4007 diode to fall voltage the use)

By the way TMM uses the same maker for ignition. Yamada also in the first CDIs I think used this maker.

Re: DLE 111 Ignition

What they write and how they actually work out are two entirely different things. If you want to keep your ignition functioning for the longest time possible do not use a battery that exceeds 6v. The initial "hot" charge on a 6v battery drops off relatively fast so is not much concern but constantly higher than 6v generates a lot of heat that is detrimental to the long term life of the ignition.

RC Exl makes most of the ignitions used for the Chinese engines and none of them are the least bit different from another under the same manufacturer name.

When I last checked, been a while, they charge $1.50 each to put your name on them. BTW Should you burn one out Ron is selling the twin for $70.00. www.southeastrcengines.com

you can use also a li-ion fromeco battery with a regulatar....i use 2600 mah and i can fly like all day without worry about it. My airplane did need nose weight so it was great lol. If you want to go normal packs...visit http://www.hangtimes.com/index.html really nice products.

Re: DLE 111 Ignition

I use a Castle Creations 10A peak switching regulator. It's a great little product, is light, inexpensive ($22.00), is programable (with an interface, I have mine set for 5.2 volts) and will handle the 1.5 max amps that the ignition demands all day long. Just make sure you put the regulator down stream of the switch (Just a little common sense)

I use one, 2600mA Fromeco LiIon and after 6, 12 minute flights, I put about 950-1100 mA back in.

More than adequate and won't break the bank.

Cheers,
Bob

Re: DLE 111 Ignition

For about $12.00-$15.00 you can buy a 4.8v, AA nicad of about 1,200 ma and fly all day without regulators and the associated wiring. Don't even need a fancy charger since your wall wart transmitter charger will handle the job. High tech isn't always the better route. Nor is keeping up with the neighbors.

For some reason some want to make things overly complicated. In the process they call it weight saving, increased available voltage, or similar drivel, er, reason... So they end up spending more, as well as risking more. If your 35% plane weighs anywhere between 25 and 29 pounds as it is, what's the point in trying to shave 4 ounces? By the time you've addeded a regulator or some battery eliminator/isolator circuit, that 4 ounces was cut down to two ounces. How much is the weight savings you're shooting for going to end up costing per ounce? There's a thing called the point of diminishing resturns, and you also have cost versus benefit. Might think about studying up on both and how they also relate to our models.
