OK..she is ready....took a shot of her put together when I was checking all the throws...also, remember cutting the fiber canopy from the hatch...so I could install a clear canopy...finished that off as well, now its a canopy helmet! fits great, and lined with felt held on with 3m scotch spray adhesive.

Re: Krill 39% Katana-build/finish

OK...Test flew the Katana and all went well. The only thing I had changed was taking out the one degree of Upthrust the instructions recomend to put in. On the first flight, putting it in vertical uplines proved that the one degree was too much and needed to come out. Also, on the horizontal lines it seemed as though the pane was 'searching'...just couldnt get locked in on the horizontal lines?

Landed..took out th eone dergree of Upthrust and only thing on the engine was 3 degrees of Right. Fueled up and went back up on the second flight....unbelieveable difference, that made. Verticals..straight as an arrow...with no signs of veering off in any direction. The horizontals were much better and the plane settled in...nice and smooth. The CG is perfect...maybe slightly nose heavy..but not bad all...the only place it is noticable is on the inverted 45 degree downline, wanting to pull to the canopy ever so slightly...not even going to worry about this.

With the CG confirmed and the thrust lines confirmed...I went ahead and put her on knife edge flight to see what kind of mixing was going to have to take place. Right to left was next to 'nill'....th eplane tucked ever so slightly to the gear...maybe 1% to 1.5% elevator to rudder mixing...no roll out noticed. Left to right showed the same thing, but it had a tendancy to roll out...so the same on the elevator mix, but will need aileron to rudder mix as well. The vertical downlines will need maybe 2% of elevator to throttle mix to take away the tendancy of the plane wanting to pull to the canopy.

The plane had plenty of power on the verticals...not lacking at all. The other thing I was concerned about was the single 8711 on each elevator. After 3 flights, it proved solid as a rock with no signs of flutter tendancies. You could actually run 1" arms on the servos and have plenty of throw for sequence work, no worries here. If you are a 3D guy, and plan to run large arms...you may want to run dual servos on the stabs...pulling hard G's on these huge elevators may have a little blowback....always better safe than sorry!

No trim adjustments were needed for the flights...none!

I am very happy with the plane, and have already placed an order for another....primarily for freestyle and 3D.

Re: Krill 39% Katana-build/finish

Hey Joe,

I'm glad to see that everything went well. It looks great. I am definitely going to be getting one of these. Would you like to build it for me? lol you sure did a great job on the build, very neat and clean. Did you or did you now counter balance the elevators? A friend of mine took the control horn off the stabs and put weights in the counter balance part of the elevator until the elevator stayed level on its own. He was experiencing some sloppy flutter, but this fixed it. I am going to run 1 8711 on each elevator, 2 on each wing (inboard and middle) and 2 on rudder mounted in the tail. I am also running a 3W 170 and all powerbox equip.

Are you going to bring this to the Huck Fest? I want to fly it, lol

ttyl

Re: Krill 39% Katana-build/finish

hey Chris....glad to hear that you are getting one! yes, I will bring to the field....fly all you want, but its set up for IMAC boring stuff, dont know if they will let us fly that there

No weight added in the Counterbalance...what size arms are you using on the servo?

Shoot me a PM, and I will give ya my #...we can talk in greater lengths about the setups and everything else..

Take Care!

Joe

If you are serious, I can build one for you...just let me know, we can work something out.

I wanted to treat my Katana to something nice, so I bought her a "McFueler"....Mark came up with the idea to make a threaded plug with a barb that swivels...so when the fueler line is plugged and then screwed back into position...the fueler line is allowed to stay put and wont get twisted from screwing in the plug....pictures paint a thousand words, take a look.
Hey joe just came across your build thread , Thanks for the plug ! Mark .
