Re: In need of a Sukhoi
Here's one:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXEDN8&P=ML I've never flown one, so I don't know if it's a good 3D plane or not. |

Re: In need of a Sukhoi
1.20 size Sukhoi 26 from dawghouserc.net for $219.00. Excellent flying, quality airplane. Same one as the Peak Model, but in stock at DawghouseRC in Indiana and lower priced.

Re: In need of a Sukhoi
50%plane
That plane from tower hobbies has limited control throw and size. (I believe) If someone would prove me wrong I would be ordering one in not to long. (Anybody have one???) The 1.20 is a little big. Not for me but for my current budget and transportation device. (1992 Maxima) Thank you for the help. |

That said, go for the six foot plane if you can, that is where "bigger flies better" begins to make a big differance. And I'm sure you could fit a 1.20 size into any car. But I am no 3-D pilot and don't aspire to be one unless rolling harriers inches off the deck qualifies "aspire" !! That's the only part that impresses me really, it's way cool ! |

Re: In need of a Sukhoi
Have one (hobbico) Sukhoi
E-flight Power 60 22.2 V ( 4 3S 2100mah ) 2 in the engine box and 2 where the fule tank would go JR DS 821 8.5 lbs extended elv surface 1/2 for 3D No problem at all on the throws , you can get more than needed The plane fly's great, will do what you want it to ---BUT ---- The airframe is weak in landing gear area, at first when I was reading other post about this plane I was thinking , What the heck are these guy's doning , all ripping out the gear. I had many flights without an event, Then it happened, ripped it to sh*t, the wheel pants that come with the kit do not help, they catch the grass and flip and rip, with the gear ripped the cowl mounts break off as well. Beef up the gear area and glue the crap out of it and cut back the front of the wheel pants so they do not extend out to the front of the tire or don't use them. Try and keep it at or under 8 LBS Other than this the plane is very nice and fun to fly, and no problem converting to electric if you like. Dave |

I have one but I'm running a .55AX, which is enough for pattern but not for 3D (It will baaaarely hold a hover). The sufaces will indeed let you get much more throw than listed, but the ailerons may need tweaking to get enough (rolls aren't as fast as I would like). By contrast, their Giles 202 is the fastest rolling plane I have All in all, it's a GREAT little plane, especially for the price. It'll handle any non-hovering aerobatics I can throw at it, and with a larger engine, I'm sure it could 3D just fine. Side note: The blenders are BEAUTIFUL |

Re: In need of a Sukhoi
Well rats...
It seems like the Hobbico .60 size and the Pheonix .40 size are the only two really available. I was already aware of both of them but wasn't sure about the performance. So from what I hear the Hobbico will 3d easy with a .90 and the Pheonix will maybe squeeze by with the .55 but really needs a .75 (I don't like .60 size 2-strokes.) and some massaging of the control surfaces. Okay. I was leaning towards the Pheonix already but was most worried about not enough control but I think it will work. (I am not looking for total max 3D just a little more than scale power and enough control to tumble and hold a decent hover) A side note on the Pheonix models, I think they are a built cheap but any experienced modeler should know were to beef it up before the first flight. I have the Funstar and it flies great. I will probably get hash for saying this but in my opinion hovering with the throttle between half and 3/4 is about the perfect place with a .40 to .60 size 2-stroke because if you overpower it you are down to low on the rpms and the throttle response is slower. Somebody tell me if I'm off my rocker. Thanks again for any input. This is what makes this hobby so much fun. |

Re: In need of a Sukhoi
Thanks for the input. I admire the technology with the electric but I prefer oil, smoke, and noise for anything above 36" wingspan.
This was in reference to damnroadhogs post but I don't know how to link it to that post |

Re: electric set up No problem , just giving out the info about the conversion, not trying to convert you over. FYI The hobbico 60 Sukhoi is a glow fuel plane produced before E- conversions were considered, on some glow planes the conversion is almost impossible when it comes to battery placment, Not the case with this plane. Things to consider No hacking the cowl to fit the engine and pipe, plug and play, no mess, no trunk full of support EQ to hual around. Of the two planes you are looking at , I would go with the Hobbico over the other. Don't want to bash , but park one kit next to the other and you would pick the Hobbico The Hobbico Sukhoi is a great flying plane and looks great to. If you shop your local Hobbytown they sell the ARF for $125.00, use a coupon with tower and get the price down to. Add # 011NW = $ 25.00 off order of $199.00 East R/C has a sweet SU-26 25% but it's up there $$$$$ 276.00 Good luck Dave |

BTW, the Phoenix models might be cheap, but I've done some pretty rough stuff with them and haven't had a failure yet, and that's with no modifying. Pretty well built planes, I think. |

Cause the only planes I own have been either Hobbico or Pheonix and if the Pheonix takes a .75 to make it hover (like I said I don't like .60 size 2-strokes) then for no extra cost I could put it in the Hobbico and have what I really want. A bigger plane and decent 3D. |
