If it's 50cc, you could get away with not using regs at all if you wish. You should use Nicads or A123 batteries tho.

That rule only applies to Giant Models. Unless your 50cc is over 25kgs it only needs a single battery. Although Mr Follies does tend to build a little on the heavy side...

One 5600 mha pack is fine for a 50cc'r -

+1

This applies to Giant Models only (25kg plus)
Heavy Models (7 - 25kg) don't require that

Yeah well that's what i thought although i was told it has now been changed to any model over is 7kg I was told this by the large model inspector who will be inspecting the model, He won't pass it without me doing it.
Mr Follies i wouldn't trust nicads on the rx ive had too many fail and i won't use A123 coz they can't be load tested i Like to know how much power i have left,
Guys just wondering if i can run 2 batteries into a batshare then into a switch then into the reg? The bat share has 2 leads in and 1 lead out or do i need to run the switch before the batshare?

All of what I am about to say is my opinion, you need to do what you feel is safest/best.

*Any* Battery pack you have needs to be looked after. If you know how to look after the pack, it should not bite you. Merely knowing the remaining capacity for a flight, while important, really isn't the whole story.

Nicads are one of the most stable chemistries around. It's true, they degrade more than some other types, but they are often easily resurected. Cycle regularly and they tend do be ok.

A123's have been good to me. Know your plane and how much power it uses. Don't stretch yourself and you will be fine. Ever driven a car with a broken fuel gage for a few weeks? It's pretty easy to avoid running out of fuel.

I think most would agree that in terms of reliability, batteries are a LOT more reliable than switches (and possibly regulators as well). I've never seen a battery fail but I've seen a switch cause a problem on at least two occasions.

Apart from that, I don't know if the batt share actually draws current to work. If you leave it connected all of the time will it drain the packs?

I don't know whether or not they fly, but clearly they can't or don't read...

The whole point of two batts is redundancy, with the switch mostly like the item to fail. So you would not run one switch after the batt share, a switch for each batt before the batt share will give better redundancy.

No disrespect to your inspector Beverly, but I'd get an second opinion... wont hurt.. and an inspector who holds your cert. to ransom over a perceived battery issue may be a headached you dont need.....
In my opinion, there are much more important issues in the smaller 50cc models like build quality, servo suitability and control surface linkage integrity that are much more important... a single 5400mah lion that has 2 sets of 2 cells in parallel or 2 x nimh packs should more than enough battery redundancy for a model this size that should only really have 5 big servo's hanging off it...
just my 2 cents...
