Re: Extra 260 90 ARF by Seagull & DLE 20cc

Gday Remo, its Tackdog (on my wifes logon)

If you give me a few days to measure it up, I have both the new airframe and a spare new DLE 30 sitting in my shed..... ( i just packed it all away, so as soon as I dig it out Ill check it out for you!)

From a width - height point of view, it will easily fit in the large cowl from when I did a rough dry fit, but didnt check the length, prop / spinner backplate clearances.

I will try it with the stock supplied stand off's, along with some shorter ones that I have.

cheers

Tackdog

Hello Extra Addict -

What is the diameter of the hole ? I am going to check how much room I have to deal with.

Thanks

Remo

Well it depends on if you choose to cut the hole large enough to clear the entire carb or not. I am removing the carb and cutting the hole the size of the carb spacer then installing the carb. I have not cut the hole yet just layed it out but I would say a 1in by 2in hole off the top of my head. The hole would be a lot bigger to clear the entire carb.

I just went and measured the layout for the hole is 1 1/4 X 1 1/4. Now remember I will be installing the carb after the motor is mounted. The hole would need to be much larger to fit the carb threw it. My standoffs will end up being about an inch long after I do this.

Hello extra addict -

Thanks for the information. I have been thinking about this more and more. I really don't want to go through this extent of customization. I know is part of the hobby but this is a bit more than I am willing to do. I am leaning towards either selling the plane, find another motor with a side carb or getting another MLD28S.

Probably an hour or so of work, pc. of cake. I chopped an entire engine box and moved it back and fiberglassed the box in less than an evening.

It really is very easy you just drill a pilot hole in one of the corners that you layout then use a dremel tool with a bit (I use a drywall cutter) and cut it right out. Only takes a couple of minutes and gives you a very nice looking cut. The standoffs can be made from wooden dowel rod with a hole drilled threw the center. It is quite easy and the end result is a model that has all the power and reliability you could want. That also won't slime up your very nice looking plane.

If you need any support, just post pics here and ask questions. Chances are once of us has something on hand to show you what we did.

Even if you switch up later to the 30 you will need the hole in the firewall as both motors are rear carb (DLE). So most of your work will already be done when you make the switch.
Like Terry said if you need help just ask.

Ok - once I get the engine, I will start the process. It might be a little while because I am shopping around for the engine.

Many thanks to terryscustom and extra addict for the support

I have the Seagull 90 and converted it to electric. I have an E-flite power 110 and 8s at 30 c. Good pattern and decent 3d at 10.5 lbs. Try the Spectrum 6020 servos: very accurate.
