Great job on this one Josh! I really liked the slow motion replays and the explanations of what not to do.

Re: BoneDoc's 3D Clinic: Snap-to-Hover

Thanks guys,

What I didn't get around to describing in the video is how airspeed affects the snapping performance. The reason why I like med-low speed is that it allows for a more controlled snap. If you come at it at high speed, you'll have to come off the sticks earlier to prevent over rotating the model during the snap.

Also by tipping the nose slightly up, it gives you a little added insurance that your nose won't be pointing down when all is said and done .

Re: BoneDoc's 3D Clinic: Snap-to-Hover

Great job Josh! I had to comment on this one. I have been working my Snap-to-Hover since I attended my first Huckfest at Toledo last year. I am doing a right positive snap with opposite rudder instead of same rudder as in a typical positive or inside snap. It is working great. I kill the throttle and apply full elevator then follow with full left rudder, full right aileron. All in one movement. Sticks into the bottom outside corners. Half way through the snap their is quick full right rudder and then a bump of left rudder again to stop the gyroscopic procession, and add throttle to hold the hover. I don't think that is really a snap roll. When I do it this way it doesn't loap or corkscrew around and its violent. Airspeed is crucial and it seems to work best when accelerating to half throttle when the throttle is dumped and the snap is initiated. I just need to work on getting it on the deck. And...I am not going to my next Huckfest until I can do it.... Theirs a goal. So... what is that? Is it a snap or just some sick stick bangin'. I can nail it about 75 percent of the time. But, course it should be 100 percent of the time if a going to do it on take like you have mastered. Awesome, Josh.

Do you have a video of this? I'd like to see it (doesn't have to be DOD). I'm interested to see how it looks like. Sounds pretty cool.

You could try it on sim if you have one. I edited my description above.. to explain it better. Bottom outside corners and try to catch it. I started practicing it with my Extra Stiffy and it took a lot of work timing it. I would have worked it more with my EF Extra... but the pucker factor limited my progress. I can't replace it.
